I know in the past when I would drill into a casing on a motorcycle I could use a bit of grase and slow drilling to grab most of the shavings.

Yeah, I have done that as well.

what did you do to make sure the shavings didnt make it into the case?
Use a sharp bit, steady speed, star with a 1/8, then 3/16 then 5/16 or whatever size for that tap. Some grease or residual gear oil from the case on the tap will hold the shavings. Flush the rest with brake Kleen, trans fluid or kerosene. Do a final flush (cap, fill, rotate wheels in neutral, or drive) then drain and refill will amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple, Mobil, etc as your final fill.


Wrapped Catless down pipes and amsoil severe gear have been awesome after my flush. Oil looked brand new, clear with 12k and lots of summer racing on it.
