My friend purchased a 2015 explorer sport a few months ago, fortunately he bought an extended warranty because a few weeks ago he started smelling.... rotten eggs. He took it to a local garage to no avail and since the smell wasn’t constant, it was difficult to diagnose. Three days ago he complained of a dragging grinding sound from under the vehicle. Not wanting to break more stuff, he towed the vehicle to the dealership.

The service manager called and told him his PTU was fried. I personally wasn’t surprised given the symptoms but I was shocked to hear Ford is suggesting oil changes every 30k and now has a service bulletin about it!!!!

Do you happen to have a link or copy of the bulletin?

Man...

I'm so thankful to come across this website when I first got my SHO. I would have had no idea about the fluid changes in the PTU and RDU (I didn't even know what those were), nor would I have had no idea about how much these cars benefit from borderline OCD maintenance.

I'm at 116k right now and the only issues I have is a bad catalytic converter and a worn bushing. As far as drivetrain is concerned, absolutely no issues.
