If you ever thought that SHONUT was not about customer service you will be when I tell you this. I talked with Josh about getting the Carbotech Bobcat pads and how they said that they would be done around convention time. So I asked him when I saw him at the convention if/when are they coming and he said they would be at Blackhawk Farms raceway sometime that day. And sure enough the delivery was made to the road course and to top that he even instaled them for me. I was so amazed! How much more porps can you give Josh?????? Props to you Josh keep up the awesome coustomer service hail hail hail

Thanks!

BTW, for the rest of you, we have the Bobcats in stock, and we have updated our website accordingly, brakes page. The Bobcats are surprisingly well priced for what they do, with more info here:

Our website is here, of course:

Are they better than PFCs?
According to Carbotech, yes, of course, but we'd need to compare specs to be sure.

From the Carbotech site, for the Panther:

Friction coefficient: 0.5-0.55
operating range: ambient temp to 900F

Does anyone have real specs for PFCM pads? Does PFC even make a 598 pad? Or are they still only making the smaller 601 for this 96+ application. Last time I checked, I got: 1996 FORD TAURUS SHO - V8 ENGINE - DISC/DISC CARBON METALLIC® STREET PAD - FRONT - 0601.20 (601 is the smaller 94/95 size)

If you want to compare race pads, the Carbotech pads are:

CARBOTECH PANTHER XP
operating temperature range 250F to 1350F coefficient of friction 0.58-0.60

CARBOTECH PANTHER PLUS
operating temperature range 150F to 1250F coefficient of friction 0.54-0.56

CARBOTECH PANTHER
operating temperature range 150F to 1100F
coefficient of friction 0.52-0.54

Carbotech Bobcat (included for comparison)
coefficient of friction 0.5-0.55
operating temperature range ambient temp to 900F

CARBOTECH SUPER STREET-F (included for comparison)
coefficient of friction 0.42
operating temperature range 75F to 800F

I've run the F-street and Panther, and the Panther has a LOT more bite than the F-street, and the Bobcat has similar specs to the (dusty) Panther.

If you want to compare other compounds ..

Wilwood:
Poly A (track pad)
coefficient of friction of 0.55-0.7
operating temperature range 200F to 1300F+

Poly D (track pad, but this is what I use on the street - the T/Tan's are just not enough for me)
coefficient of friction of 0.4-0.5
operating temperature range 0F to 800F

Poly T (street pad)
coefficient of friction of 0.35-.45
operating temperature range 0F to 700F

As you can see, the Panther have a race-level grip with a CF in the 0.5 range, and a near-race level temperature tolerance up to 900F, all while still being a street pad. If you need to get the rotors glowing, swap in the P+ that has a higher tolerance (and wash off the dust ...)

I was told they had started to mfg the Z-pads, but unfortunately no, just the Carbon-Metallic in 598's.

I called PF this morning Josh & told them to contact you (gave them your website) - they said they'd be happy to make a run of 50-100 sets if you felt they'd move.

I'd probably get in on that buy, as I've liked the PF pads I've used before. :)

How would the Panther Plus pads be for either my 95 daily or the 91? I've got the white wheels on the 95 (yes, that's my mistake), and I'm looking for a lower-dust pad that's still going to perform on the occasional outing. The 91's stuck with the 96 brakes for now too.

Thanks!

Interesting - I was not aware that they even made the CM in the 598.

The P+ pads do dust, though the dust cleans off fairly easily, so I'd suggest the Bobcat for lower dusting while still maintaining a good level of brake grip. Check with viperrt450 for more feedback on dust with the Bobcat. If you find they are getting overpowered (pad fade, NOT fluid boiling) on the track, then just swap in a set of P+ for the track and wash the wheels afterwards. Remember that the Bobcat and P+ have similar bite (CF), but the P+ has a higher temperature tolerance.

The post starter's front Bobcat pads actually dust less then his rear pads. I can tell because he hasn't cleaned his car in weeks! :)

The braking is really good too. With the SS brake lines, the car really pulls down to a stop quickly.

What does he have in the rear? I recall you mentioning that the rear dust more than the front, but I don't recall the thread ....

The Bobcats are a very very good pad on the street, very low dusting for an awesome pad. Scared Mikey a few times coming down from a stop. I owuld defenatily buy these pads agian. I used them at Blackhawk they got the job done but would of liked to have a better pad for the track. I have some crappy pads on the rears. I really need to get some carbotechs back their to make the car more balanced with the bias plugs and all.

So are these pads available in the OEM sizes to work behind slicers? Or are they only available for the 96+ upgrade?
The 598 96+ upgrade IS an OEM size that will work behind the slicer. I believe they will custom make a set for the 94/95 size (601) that will fit behind a 15" wheel, or for 89-93 (421A) that will fit behind a 14" wheel, if you want. (The 598 is one they made moulds for, so it's not custom work http://www.carbotecheng.com/bobcat.htm ) However, unless you are running 15" wheels, or don't want to upgrade to 96+, there's not much point, not to mention that custom pads are more $$ than ones that come from moulds (though they would be cheaper for a 89-93 by keeping the stock 10" brakes and using a good pad, compared to actually doing the 11.6" 96+ upgrade, and if you want to do that, we have 89-93 front pads in Carbotech F-street on the shelf.)
