I've taken notice that my drivers side power window rolls rather quikly at first and then slows to a crawl only to speed up again near the top. Is this a sign of a failing motor?

Probably the motor starting to go but try and put another ground to it if you have the door panel off. Some connections may be bad as it uses the bolts that hold it in place as grounds. I would get a long piece of wire directly to the negative side of the battery just to check it out.

Mine does the same thing. Being an 89, it could mine could have a dying motor, as could yours possbily. Another thing I noticed is that putting in my new alternator helped. It still slows down, but it moves with a little more force now. And, another though. My passenger side window is for some reason popped out of the window frame on one edge. Perhaps something like that (a replacement window?) would contribute.

Nah, it's probably just that the tracks the window assembly slides on are drying up and need to be re-greased.

Common problem on older cars.

What is the life of the average power window motor? I've got 2 extra front motors, assembly, and window and am not sure if I should sell them or keep them for later. I know I've had several problems on my ford tempo.

I third that motion. Remove the inner door panel and apply a lithium or white grease to the inside rails of the metal slide tracks. Not a fatal problem. Electric motors don't usually get weak. They either run or they don't.

I had a similar problem with another car I owned. It was caused by a loose nut that secures the scissor mechanism to the door, as the window was traveling through its range of motion the pivot point would change causing the window to bind.
