I'm planning on changing my power steering fluid using the "turkey baster" method where you suck out the old PS fluid from the PS Reservoir and then refill the reservoir with new fluid and repeat every few weeks until the fluid looks new.

I've read of people flushing their power steering completely and refilling it using a synthetic ATF fluid such as Mobil 1 ATF or Amsoil ATF. Because I'll just be removing some of the fluid, My question is, Can I mix the Synthetic ATF fluid with the original Mercon ATF in my SHO.

I just want to know if Synthetic ATF fluid will safely mix with the original Mercon ATF fluid in my car or if I'd need to completely drain the old Power Steering fluid to use Synthetic.

Thanks!

Seriously, just take off one of the hose connections at the PS cooler behind the bumper cover, and plug the return line back to the reservoir. Turn the car on, and fill the reservoir with fluid as the open line from the rack dumps the old fluid into a pan. When the fluid coming out from the rack is nice and red, shut the car off and reconnect the hose.

Don't even need to start the engine. Just disconnect the line at the cooler, turn on the key and it will drain out. Otherwise you can't hardly pour it in fast enough with the engine running.

If it were me I'd just do the turkey baster method. Suck it out then refill. Drive around the block do it again, and again. Then once a week, once two weeks so on until it stays clean looking.

Put a drop on a white napkin to see how clean the fluid is.

The Turkey baster way just seems like it'll be easier for me, but thanks for the suggestions!

So it is safe to mix the Synthetic ATF with the regular Mercon ATF in my car now?

Ever read the label on a synthetic ATX container?

I'm just asking the question because I have no idea, and I've never bought Synthetic ATF before. Can somebody answer my question, Is it safe to mix Synthetic ATF with the regular Mercon in my car?
