Just out of curiosity I was going through the online parts catalogue from Ford. I decided to check out the stock SHO and police interceptor exhaust systems. For some reason the police interceptor cat back exhaust is cheaper. Do the EcoBoost interceptors not have the third cat? Can't tell from the picture it's just a representative illustration.
Could the crome tips be $200 a piece?Screenshot 20211025 173815 ChromeScreenshot 20211025 173720 Chrome

Curious, are they exactly the same? I would think so but maybe not. If they both fit and perform identically that is a good budget find!

Be careful, police interceptors also came with 4 cylinders.
Yes, I made sure I checked on the 3.5 EcoBoost version. Mind you the N/A P.I. 3.7 litre engine version of the exhaust is a true dual without cat or resonator and it's about another hundred bucks cheaper.
Weird, the four cylinder ecoboost exhaust is actually about 20 bucks more expensive than the dual exhaust when not on sale

Comparing the FPIS 3.5L EcoBoost and the SHO, The only part that is different is the muffler, pipe, resonator assembly. All of the front cats, intermediate pipes, hangers, gaskets, etc. are the same. That would lead me to believe that they are the same part minus the tips. Gaskets matching in size makes me think that both are the same diameter. The SHO exhaust even lists the 2013 FPIS under the fitment. I would say using the FPIS exhaust should work and you could just put tips on it if you want them.

Technically, the Police Interceptor Sedan did not come with a 4 cylinder. That was a Special Service Sedan. There were a few differences such as FWD/AWD, rear impact bracing, tires, deflectors, motors, etc. The Special Service Sedan was designed as an administrative car and only available FWD with the 4 cylinder.

I knew the EcoBoost four-cylinder was offered but I didn't realize it was special service only. Isn't that basically the same motor that was offered in the Mustang? Or is it closer to the motor that was offered in the ford Escape?

Honestly, i can't tell you a whole lot about Ford's. I got interested in this platform because I am an Officer on a Fire Department and use my POV to respond to scene and/or the station. I was looking for AWD, Advanced Safety (Think Driver Assist Package), Comfort (Ventilated seats, etc) and some performance. I was also hoping for something that was easy to integrate my emergency equipment into. That lead me to a Charger or a Taurus. I started researching both and learned a fair amount about this platform and then dove into the deep end and immersed myself in it once I got my first SHO. I know a fair amount about the FPI and SSV lineup from adapting that equipment and from beginning to use them in our fleet at the department.

I can tell you it is a 2.0 EcoBoost I-4 with a 6 speed. Top speed is 120 mph. 240 hp @ 5500 rpm, 270 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm. From Wikipedia, it appears to be the one used in the 2013-15 Escape. It was an option 2015-2018. Some reason they never used the 2.3L or the 2.0L Twin Scroll or any of the more powerful 4 cylinder EcoBoost motors.
