hi guys,
something bad happend to my 1992 5 speed MTX SHO. i was driving down my street this moorning around 8 a.m. to go to work and in a sudden i hear like a cracking noise under the front end of my car. after the noise the car start all shaking like thunder was happening around there at the moment. i pulled over, to see what was happening under it. i wasnt that happy but suprised for the rear subframe of the car which had fallen off and the bushing that hold it, were broke in half.
i was mad upset and i called AAA towing company. i towed the car at my drive way, and after then i took my registration ( for the VIN #) and went to watertwon ford dealership to ask info about this problem, because as i know 70% of tauruses( SHO's) from 1989-1996 have recalls on those sub-frame bushings.
but all in a sudden i wasn't to happy when Ford dealership told me that the recall for those bolts was done 2 years before i bought the car. --- *****************big pain **********************
But one other news was that they had the parts in stock there for me the nuts that go into the car frame, the ruber bushings and the long neck 18 mm (3/4) bolts. the cost for those was around $98 +tax. I'd buy the parts but i do not want to send the car to the dealership because they dont really know anything about SHO's they'll fix one thing for sure but they'll brake 2 on the car.
my SHO is hurting on the lot, i dont know what to do because the nuts siting in the frame of the car are broken off. they move inside the holes that they have for the big bolts that go in -to them.
I hate looking at it sitting on my drive way now and i do not like to drive my 93 ATX because i dont really feel the power like i did on my 92 baby MTX *SHO*. :(

please if any one has any idea or would sugest me anythig what to do i would really appreciate.

thanks millions

sincerely

adi

Buy the aluminum subframe bushings from Bruce (netviper), and 2 recall kits (I think Bruce has those too, cheaper than Ford's price of $15.67/ea), and replace all four bushings yourself (about an hour or so labor) and you won't believe the improvement!

hi man
yeah i would do that to buy the repair kit and the bushings everything at ford will cost me around $ 98 which is not big deal ia m going to get those tomrorrow. ***8 but how can i put the nuts into the frame??? becaue the nuts inside the car frame are broken and move in there so i do not have anyway how to tight in the bolts inside there.
let me know please.

A very easy fix even for the novice mechanic. Get the subframe recall kit PN# XF1Z-5A364-AA. Pull back the carpet on both sides near the pedals and foot rests of the passenger side. Remove the rubber grommets. If the bolt broke pull the nut of the rest of what's left of the bolt out of the hole. Install a new bolt and nut for both sides and torque down to specs. Reinstall the carpet and go on your merry 5-speed way. If you can get the aluminum subframe bushings from Bruce, definitely do that...there is an incredible improvement in handling!!

Edit: again.. wait on getting the rubber bushings from Ford. GET the aluminum SFB's. For slightly more in cost you're going to get ALOT more in performance/handling!
