Having a **** of a time getting the correct hose, NAPA keeps giving me the line from the steering gear (i guess that's the name for it) to the rack and I need the hose from the pump to the steering gear. Does any body have an NAPA part number for the correct hose?

Thanks much...

That's the one that I've got, but it's not correct.

I need the one that goes from that orifice to the steering gear.

I think I still have the box for mine in the trunk.. should be very close if not the same... bought mine for a 92 I think...

71829 Got it from AZ. Dorman part number.

The one they list as "correct" is the same one napa has. So I would assume this is the one you want. The other line that screws in on the one end, just goes to an open ended hose.. so its gotta be the one. Unless there is something weird about the ports on that rack that I can't remember, I dont know why that one wouldnt work.

Double check you get those little teflon washers with the hose too. I was "lucky" enough not to get them with mine, and didnt figure it out until I was ready to replace the hose. Ended up being a 2 day job because everyone in town was already closed. :)

You need the pressure hose?

I'm guessing, it's the line that runs from the pump, cross the top of the rack, and makes a 90* turn into the steering gear itself, the line I have from NAPA (same one linked above) is from the steering gear to the rack...

I think that's the same line I already have from NAPA, same length and fittings.

I'm just going to see if I can make the old one work after I find a new Teflon washer for the fitting... If I can get it together and not leak I'll be content...

71831 is the # for the one you have.. :) Check it out... it should be right.... you really dont wanna go thru all that and put an old hose on... lol I waited another day because I know as soon as I bolt it all up again, it would leak. :)

I guess it wouldnt be so bad if someone made a 18mm open ended wrench that was offset and stubby... but I think thats asking too much.. lol I tried my hardest to get that line loose without dropping the subframe a bit.. just wasnt happening.

So 71829 is the line that runs from the pump all the way across to the steering gear?

EDIT: 71831 is 29.25" and 71829 is a little over 27"; the 29.25" hose is WAY too short already and doesn't have the correct bends in it...

Is the line leaking or is it the washer? You can just buy the washers. The dorman part # for the washers are 82540.

Neither, the fitting was so seized in that the flared fitting wrench rounded it off thus taking a pipe wrench to remove the line and boogering up the fitting...

I dunno man... maybe its because that one makes an immediate 90 right off the fitting... making a sweeping bend or whatever uses up more of that length. Reminds me of doing electrical pipe work.. lol

I got a spare hose.. I'll get a real measurement for ya just to be certian.

That being said... the hose I got for my girls Malibu was an AZ hose, and it was 3" too long.. I got it held down by a zip tie because if the hood pushes it down, it'll come in contact with the exhaust. You wanna be real careful with that too.. thats a fire you dont want.

... the more I sit here and think about doing this job... just how are you doing this? I dropped my subframe, left the motor in place. If you took the nut loose off your steering gear and dropped the rack with the subframe it will be short and probally not fit... I think I dunno.. its getting late.. :)
