ok, so the p/s on my 90 had been squeeling for a while. I knew the belt was loose, I just didn't get around to tightening it. Well, now I get to (yay me :banghd: )

My question is, where is the tensioner for this belt? does it use the same one as for the alternator belt? My repair manual is no help on this.

thanks

with battery and a/c and all the other crap, it is hard to see this tensioner, it is kind of below the power steering pump, to tighten it, turn the allen head bolt on top of the tensioner(clock wise), make sure u loosen the bolt on the front of the pulley first.

It helps a lot if you have hands the size of a typical 5 year old.....

iirc, its a 5 or 5.5mm allen wrench that you need. If you have one that fits on a 1/4" drive ratchet and you have several extensions, it makes that job much more manageable.

yeah I run a 5mm allen socket on about an 8" extension and just tighten it with a ratchet from above the engine

there is a 14mm nut on the pulley you need to loosen, then you tension the belt by cranking that allen bolt, and when its tight enough, go tighten up the 14mm nut again

this is all easiest with the battery removed

you may also want to retension the altenator belt at this time as well, or replace both belts with new ones.... to remove the PS belt you need to remove the alt belt as its behind it on the crank pulley.....
