I just did the rod bearings in my 95 ATX and I have a stupid question. Are both the oxygen sensors the same. I'm wondering because I purposely reversed them knowing I would most likely have the change the front one first. Just got my car all together and now I have a 172 code and I'm assuming it's a bad oxygen sensor.

Yes, they are the same. Yes, the code is almost always for the 02 sensor, and unfortunately, its for the rear one....

Not exactly.

In fact, probably 2/3rds of all O2 sensor codes are related to either a true condition (rich or lean) or a contaminated MAF sensor.

A single O2 sensor code is more likely to be caused by a bad sensor, but cleaning the MAF is always the quickest and easiest way to make sure it's really a sensor problem.

FWIW, since you already has the O2 sensors out, changing one shouldn't give you too much trouble. :thumb:

The Bosch 15716 fits both the front and back of the 3.2L SHO. The wire length is the same in both locations. At least it was when it came from the factory.

I also replaced mine when installing SS y-pipe with new Bosch sensors from AZ; they are both exactly alike.

if you buy the O2 sensors from RCM they'll fit in either location. I got a little worried when I replaced mine since one of them had a much longer length of wire. We did have to play with the wire routing to get it to fit though... But that could have been necessary when the previous owner pulled the motor out of the car.
