That's right. The only thing SVO and SVT may have had in common would be a few engineers. There is a gap of time in between the 2 factions.

ok then
if SVO made cobras until SVt came then what basically is the differance other than time?
one was before the other but they do the same thing
and i talkied to my ford man and he owns a SHO and a lighting and he says they did alittle into the oversee of it
but wasn't the main player
but a cobra on a V6 tang it like...not the same thing
it would be like putting a SVT badge on a GT mustang...
SVT had a deal with it
its not a totally differnet model

I suggest you go to Ford directly and find out what the **** you're talking about. My father bought a 1992 ****** LX-E which was like a 4 door GT that they made for 2 years. He goes back to the dealer a couple years later and a salesman he talks to denies up and down that a car like that was ever built. Stupid people. I think your Ford guy falls into that category. SVO never made a Mustang Cobra. It's been SVT since 1993. SVO made a turbo 4 cyl. Mustang in the mid-90's. SVO was disbanded, there was no special team until the early 90's. Maybe there are some people who landed in both groups. The SVO group was a toy. SVT is intended to make high performance vehicles, and to not lose money in the process. Why do people continue to go by second and third hand information, in the end not knowing what the **** they're talking about?

Huh..that's odd...never seen a SVO badge on a Cobra.....

SVTs first two vehicles the 93 Cobra & 93 Lightning.

AS Jimbo stated SVO did the SVO Mustang...and that was it.

That was a typo. I meant to say the mid-80's. And then SVT came on the scene in 1993.

I guess technically you could say that SVO did have some involvement with the SHO, although how much can be debated. If anyone bought the rodshifter conversion directly from Ford, it was sold as an SVO upgrade. Did they actually design it, or were they just the reseller of it, after it was put onto the cars in mid 91? But just to add to the arguement, I think that an SVO/SVT badge doesn't belong on the car. If they had some involvement with the car, they would have wanted their badge to be somewhere on the car.

noSHO, I thought you said that you had a 99 SVO mustang?? Didnt you say it had somewhere in the range of 150-3,000 hp shot of Nawwwwwas?? Maybe its just me though...

SHO92 - all I have to say is WOW, that thing sweet!! Dont the springs make such a difference in the way it handles?? I have yet to have the luxury of installing my Konis yet, but I have had the Eibachs amd they are the best investment that I have made as far as my SHO is concerned!

Hence the window decal. SVO sold window banner through thier catalog. They also have a side exhaust kit that has SVO in black stamped into the side skirt that covers the exhaust pipe. Ford never produced a SVO Mustang after 1986. In 1987 SVO almost put out a T-Bird (reported to be 275HP) but canned it and SVO never put out another car.

Why I have to waste my time on what people think is the truth? Either get friends who have a clue or at least a car without stupid stickers. Stop wasting our time.
P.S. Go to the timeline on that site.

SVT did not begin putting their badge on Cobras until the '95 model year. If the eighth digit of the VIN is "D", he has a 1994 Mustang SVT Cobra with SVO stickers.

SHODWN:
I got the Calvin ******* on SVT badges on my car
Nice

Wouldn't happen around here... eek!

You want the real story about SVO becoming SVT (it didn't)
In 1986 Ford in their infinite wisdom replaced the Mustang with the Probe at least on paper. SVO stopped work on the 1987 SVO and the 275 horse SVO T-bird and SVO was "repositioned" as the engineer management for the Performance cars of Ford. Then the UAW stepped in and brought Fords attention to the fact that the Probe was built over seas and would cost USA workers jobs and it made the Contract haggle abit rough. You add that in with the fact the Stang crowd FREAKED when their beloved pony was put out to pasture and magically the Stang is still here. But ok back to the story so now you have a car again but you just fired the workers and all but the main Engineers. So SVO became the "brains behind the brawn" and its why we had the T-bird SC and the SHO. The Turbo 4 was suppose to go into the MX5 Taurus and remain in the T-bird post 1987 but couldn't so then you have 2 performance cars with no motors. No they didn't build them like the did the SVO stangs they consulted on them and engineered the parts to make them work. Somewhere along the line (my info guy moved on and Came back to Ford Post SVT) Ford noticed that they were getting left in the dust performace wise and the started a new Factory Tuner Shop called SVT. The reason our Rodshifters were listed as SVO is SVO is still in charge of the parts catalog now they are called Ford Racing Products or they were replaced by them that I don't know for sure. SVO's last Hurrah was helping with the 1993 Cobra, don't believe me take a look at the rear. Same rear discs and same taillights, ok so maybe it was the new kids on the block of SVT hitting the cobwebcovered parts bins.
Ok long story short did SVO build the SHO, nope did SVO have something to do with it yes not to the hands on point we would all have liked. SVT wasn't even around to play with it in 89 so thats a double No on them.

as Jack Palance used to say "Believe it or Not" (god I hope I'm not dating myself too bad there)

Tim M.
In 1993 the Mustang Cobra would receive rear disc brakes and even shared the same tail light lenses as the SVO.

The long post from SNOsho is the same story I've always heard. I've been told this story by people who worked at the ford plant in atlanta from 87-93.

My SHO has svt badges, but they were on there when I bought it. I haven't taken them off for a good reason. When I got to stereo shows, it gets other people asking about the SHO. I explain that it's not really an SVT, but a standard ford that SVO had a part in designing. This is the same reason I replaced the ford badges with yamaha badges front and rear.

CONCLUSION: I think as long as you aren't trying to pass it off as an SVT produced vehicle, it's OK. there are pics on my site..
