I'm having a problem with oil leaking out of the rear valve cover and I don't have the tools or the time at the moment to take everything off to get to it and get it fixed properly. Does anyone know if it's ok to use the oil treatments or the stop leaks or curb the leak until I can get around to getting it fixed? And if so, what kind or brand does anyone recommend? Right now, I'm using full Syn Mobile 1 if that helps any. Thanks

DON'T put any kind of stop leak in your SHO. You might be able to stem the tide a little bit with a heavier dino oil, preferably even a high mileage brand, since M1 syn is probably a "thinner" oil than most.

But I agree with SHOZ, eventually the gaskets are going to have to be replaced, probably sooner than later.

Unless that car has had full synthetic its whole life I would switch to a good dino oil. This will more than likely slow your leak down alot. If you think about what a stop leak does you will not want that in your motor. Obviously it is meant to clog passages that oil leaks out. Well to do that it has to clog passages you want oil to pass through.

Alot of people on this board you castrol gtx and others valvoline ...both of these oils have high mileage versions also that others say have yielded good effects. :thumb:

Thanks alot everyone...I didn't think any of the stop leaks would work, that's why I asked on here before I did anything. I think it may have something to do with the full Syn, which is why I wrote that down.

I had a cam seal start leaking after using Syntec for about 3,500 miles. After another 500 it has tamed down to almost nothing..But I would go ahead and replace your gaskets anyway. Do some other stuff while you're in there :)

You might want to crawl under and examine the oil pressure sendor. It is a common leaker, and is up near the valve cover. A whole lot easier, and cheaper, to fix.
