My buddy has a Ford Taurus (2000 I believe) and it recently lost a bunch of oil on his driveway. I got underneath and there is oil all over the oil pan and it appears to be leaking from between the oil pan and block (and the gasket is squeezed out). We are planning to replace the oil pan gasket (CarParts.com P/N: OS30636R. Is there anything else we should do while we are under there? We are going to get a manual but is there anything I should be aware of? Thanks for any help you can give.

Just be aware that most of us here are versed in the SHO version of the Taurus, which ended production in 1999.

If you don't find someone here who has experience with the 2000 model, you might also try at the Taurus club site at www.tauruscarclub.com

Good luck!

Yeah, I realize that. I tried to ask the question at the Taurus Car Club because of that reason but their message board requires that an Admin approve my registration before I can post - and I don't know when that will happen. Maybe someone on here has a registration and can post for me? Anyway, I realize there are differences, but I figure you guys probably know a lot about the Taurus in general so I thought I'd ask.

The engines are completely different. Other than that, they are mostly the same. Any specific advice you might receive based on the SHO engine would not necessarily apply tot he non-SHO version.

like everyone else has mentioned the engines are light night and day. but just use common sense, dont force it off, it should come off easily, once everyhthing that should be disconnected is. and clean both surfaces prior to reinstalling the gasket. good luck

Alright, well, I was just hoping some of you owned non-SHO Taurus's... doesn't sound like many do. I appreciate the advice.

SHOs are rather addictive, the only reason I have the 87 Slo wagon is because I bought it before there were SHOs!!

If the gasket is squeezed out there may be a reason. Like pressure in the crankcase caused by defective emisions equipment. Not likely, but keep it in mind.

Oil pan gaskets don't usually just "go out." You should check for a leaking oil pressure or level sender that would be more likely to fail in a big way.
