Opened up my 99 yesterday(front side only) since I had to replace a bad COP on the #7 cylinder. No welds and no slippage noted. 121,000. I have no history on this car since it was a trade in at the Ford dealership I work at. It was last titled in Northen Virginia. I'm in Chesapeake.
Someone in its past has opened up the top side of the engine. Missing bolts, bolts in wrong places, which of course will be corrected. Its to old now to check Oasis for past warranty issues.
I fixed the ABS light and speedo inop issue: blown 15a ABS mini fuse in pass compt fuse box. Crossing fingers it wont blow again! Its been a week.
#1 cylinder is misfiring badly. That's my next project. Going to check the cams on that side too since I have all torn apart.
Its not a daily driver, something to do when work runs out.
Keep you all posted on my project,
Thanks for reading,

I want to get them welded. I'd like to have someone who has welded cams before do it. I've had offers from folks who know how to weld, but feel uneasy about letting them learn/screwup on my engine. I checked the list of welders from V8SHO.com, but no one is close. Sooo, its on the list to do.

Road trip it up to Kirk in the summer. I bought my GenIII up in RI and drove it down here. The drive wasn't too bad.

i dont have my sho anymore which im kickin my own ass for now but anyways.... i see it everyday since i sold it to 1 of my tenants... the car has just hit 260.000 km and it has no welded cams and the tranny is all original except for a new pan 2 new tranny lines and a new t.q. and new bands put in since they got burnt up due to the pan leaking and the fluid foaming up. She still goes like a bat out of **** and not a noise out of the motor. I truly believe when ford said it wasnt a problem in all of the engines. This car is proving it thus far.... i know somebody here will chime in and say its just a matter of time .... well alot of time has passed and been driven daily all its life and no fail to be had. Good luck your new car... i might just buy another in the spring.:woo-hoo:

260000KM is what? 160000miles? IIRC my car was a cam failure at 169K miles. Not that your old one is going to let go soon, but it is also not proving anything at that relatively low of mileage.

It's not guaranteed to fail. It's likely enough to prompt most of us to take preventive action. There was also a fella on here with a newly purchased GenIII just a few months ago who didn't think it needed to be done. Now his car is a lawn ornament. So do what you want.
