No start,loud noise after timing...

Hi I am new to the board an have been searching heavily for info pertaining to repairs on a SHO just purchased. When I bought the SHO it ran but with a loud tapping noise which turned out to be the rear camshafts chain tensioner. I took the manifold an valve covers off and replace the tensioner. I have now put the engine back together and I have nothing. The engine will crank and it will try to start and some cylinders fire it sounds but it bangs out right away. When this happens the starter will sound like it gets stuck and the engine will seize then pick back up. I ran the codes with the engine off and nothing came up. When i replaced the tensioner i took off the timing belt so I could get access to the tensioner. I have triple checked the timing an it all lines up. Both sprockets point up on there marks when the crankshaft damper is lined up and the crankshaft dot is lined up with the block at 5oclock. I also attached the camshafts on the right links to the chain(light colored links). What I have noticed thoe is that the camshaft lobes are all in different locations. I belive the number 1 and number 5 cylinders fire at the same time so shouldn't the lobes be in the same exact position at the same time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are the plug wires in the right order?

1---2---3

4---5---6
^front of engine^

5--1
6--2
4--4
^front of coil^

i hear it's pretty common to accidently swap 5 and 6..theres a little picture around here somewhere that better illustrates this..i think in the haynes repair manual, the order listed is wrong..

EDIT...ah, here we go

just an idea...let us know what you find

It definitely sounds like the timing as you've described it... do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on? Is the rail pressurised? Check engine light on or dim?

Yes the spark plugs are in the right order. Fuel pump primes and also pressurized at the rail. Check engine light off when cranking. Thanks for all the tips. I'm ready to try anything I am stumped. The only thing I can possibly think of is the CID but I don't think that would give me the results I have.

i would check grounds on the intake ther is a ground strap that goes to the intake on the back left intake support pice or whatever you want to call them but if that strap is not there then your DIS module is not getting grounded. i would also check the bolts that hold the crossover pipe on they are also part of the grounding for the DIS module.

I belive the number 1 and number 5 cylinders fire at the same time so shouldn't the lobes be in the same exact position at the same time.

The coil fires #1 and #5 at the same time, but the pistons are on opposite strokes. That is, one is on its exhaust stroke while the other is on its compression stroke. The cam lobes for these cylinders should be 180 out relative to each other.

I would be suspicious of either a timing mismatch between the intake and exhaust cams you worked with, or, far more rarely, a sheared camshaft.

Perform a compression test on cylinders 1 - 3.
