As I'm driiving along my heater will start to blow freezing cold air and the my engine temp will start to increase in an alarming rate? So will have to pull over and turn it off for a few minutes. Some times it will go back to normal after a couple minutes and sometimes I will be stranded for a couple hours. It's happened to both of my sho's and even to my F-150. Any Ideas? Also I don't know but all three are 92 vehicles any help would be appriated.

Oh and if this subject has already been discussed I'm sorry I searched and couldn't find the threat, So please don't bite my head off with comments like "why don't you try searching"

Thanks

I would start by checking the t-stat. Sounds like it is intermittatly sticking closed?!? I would also recommend replacing the rad cap and flush the cooling sytem if has been overheating!!!

This may sound stupid, but are you certain the car is getting antifreeze circulating in the cooling system (meaning is the upper rad. hose getting warm)? Also make sure you have proper coolant levels in the radiator. If there is coolant in it, and it is circulating then do what maddog said!

I agree to check/replace t-stat. I had a cutlass supreme that did that. Very frustrating. Ended up being a head gasket leak. Used sealant to fix. Mechanic said don't drive over 100.

I concur with checking your radiator and thermostat. It sounds to me like there is definitely a clog in the system...I'd be looking at the heater core itself.

Either way, drain the entire cooling system, add some flush with water only. Warm engine up and run for 10 minutes. Shut down, let it cool, drain, flush with water until it comes out clear(do the radiator, then engine, then heater core, all separately). Replace T-stat and radiator cap, refill. I seriously recommend one of these: http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/lis22150.html Eliminates any guesswork and chance. We have one at the shop, works great.
