NGK vs Motorcraft

Hey guys,
So I’ve looked through all the forums, and it seems everyone here is in agreement that Motorcraft is the most recommended for all parts. However, when I first bought my car I bought a set of NGK iridium spark plugs, along with the corresponding ignition coil and wires. While I realize that nothing is as good as OEM, I’ve always had good experiences with NGK equipment. Anyone experimented with this, or know if it will cause problems to use? The car these are going in are a 94 atx.

AS long as the gap is right and wire routing is good you should be fine. I like the motorcrafts myself but this isn't a big deal.

Gap is obviously important, I’m more talking heat ranges and such

I mean I love oem double platinum but those are hard to find. Iridium was the follow up Motorcraft replacement IIRC that was listed in the replacement parts catalog and are designed for longer duty life so not sure. Heat range is fine unless you have aftermarket boost/nitrous setup and want to get a cooler plug.
Now that some thoughts are rattling around maybe some listed replacement plugs had a slightly different height and maybe plug wires sealing at the top were affected? I seem to rememeber reading something along those lines years ago when AGSP32PP were getting hard to find and people posted about some replacements being a little tall. Been a while..

The AGSP32PP plug is 1/16" shorter than ALL other plugs, Including Ford's own replacement AGSP32FM. My go to plugs are Autolite Iridium XP3924 from Rock Auto. Its information page contains a chart showing the differences between the different types of plugs:

I've been putting Autolite coppers in my cars for years. Plugs are easy to change so I don't mind that they don't last as long as iridiums.

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it. Moving forward I won’t drop as much $$ into a full ngk setup, however I wonder why they shortened that particular AGSP32PP plug.

Yeah nobody thought twice about it when the oem's were plentiful and not very expensive. Once supply dried up and oem reference pointed to a taller plug is when people really noticed as a large group. I had stockpiled plugs when supply was lower and didn't have to deal with this. Just get good reliable plugs/wires that fit. Materials may dictate changing more or less frequently but--- for cars this old that's not the worst thing about parts availability

Ngk is the OEM producer of Motorcraft. Ford dumped autolite some decade or more over quality issues. You can't go wrong with NGK, those plugs are in all my cars, lawnmowers, and tractor.

I am partial to NGK, I work at a Stihl dealership and that is the only brand of plug we use, just due to their reliability. I’ve always used them in my vehicles when I could afford, but if the car likes something else more, then it likes something else more.

NGK is a great plug. It's only fitment. I like that red. Never got to buy one.
