Just joined the forum due to recently purchasing a '94 SHO MTX w/150,***. One owner, clean title, great shape! Some minor cosmetic issues: couple small door dings and a quarter size chip on rear wheel well (little bit of paint bubble also which will be addressed), 1" rip in back seat leather, but interior is otherwise great. Engine clean, no leaks/smells. Has had an issue with starting, but only 4-5 times out of prolly 60 starts. Turns over, but doesn't seem to be getting fuel (fuel pump?). Always starts after turning over for 5-10 seconds. CarFax/owner says the car had 100,*** on it in 2000, and only put 50k on it since, due to buying another SHO. Possible injector issue due to sitting for months at a time throughout the last eight years? I am not a mechanic by any means, but have a great mechanic who is going to look it over soon, check all major components etc. Anything else he should specifically look for regarding the SHO/known problem areas? Sounds like rod bearings seem to be an issue with the V6 SHO's? I am not sure of the mechanical history of the car, but the previous owner had two SHO's, and was in his late 50's. Needed the $$ and sold his first one. The interior, body, engine etc. are all very clean and well cared for. Sorry about the rambling, and maybe this should be posted in a different area...but I am still a newbie!

:munch:Well, Thanks for the time and "HELLO" from chilly Minnesota! Go VIKES!

Welcome to the SHOForum!

Use the search for 60K and 120K... you will find threads that contain all the usual suspects for maintenance and common failure points. A lot of it you can do yourself, but more importantly you should have an idea of what you are looking for.
First, buy this shirt-

a few places i like to go are-

http://www.shophoenixproject.com/maint.htm

http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index&catid=&topic=9

Front 60k:
Water pump: @$50 after core charge
Timing belt: $20
Cam seals: $20 (timken 1213n)
Front main seal: $10
Crank sensor: $40
Timing belt tensioner(If needed)$40 for a good used one and $100+ if you find a new one somewhere.

Parts for front 60k= $180-$240 (+ shipping and or tax)

Upper 60k:
I have not done one in over a year so prices may be quite different; especially the wires. I was able to get A/C delco wires for $50 last time. I think they are $100 now.

You can do your own research on the parts but heres the list...

Plugs
Wires
Valve cover gasket set(consistently about $75)
Shims(if needed are about $5 each) you may need as few as none to perhaps 7 or 8 or more. Renting the shim kit is an option also.
From this thread-
http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=88356&highlight=60k

The starting issues are very common on cars that have not had this maintenance. Most likely suspects are CPS (no spark), or fuel pump (no pump prime). There are others, but there are ways to narrow down the symptoms.

For inspiration-

KeanSHO beat me to the punch but Welcome to the SHOFORUM. The Phoenix project is a great place to start for what to expect first thing I would do is try and see if the vehicle has any codes even if the Check Engine Light is not on you might still have some stored. Try this link it explains everything you wil need to know.

With 150,*** I sure hope the guy did the timing belt etc!! Prolly needs to be re-done. It runs awesome, with the exception of the occasional starting issue. The timing belt will be checked out as you suggested, and rod bearings replaced, as I have read in some other posts. I got it at a good price and am prepared to sink some $$ into it. Thanks and I am diggin' the SHO so far! I am looking into mods as well, but nothing too crazy.

Thanks! Another question, which may sound stupid..or make me sound stupid, but...

It was my understanding that in the '94 SHO w/the manual trans the engines were 3.0, and w/the Auto trans the engines were bumped to a 3.2. However, I have been seeing a lot of SHO 3.2 w/manual trans for sale. Am I incorrect, and that the size of the engine in a stock 94 SHO with manual trans is a 3.2? Either that, or people selling their cars are unsure, because the SHO's were pretty beat down, I doubt the owners put any work into them, let alone a engine/tranny swap. Thanks for any help!
