Haha, thank you for the enthusiasm, but I don't need any money up front. Right now I'm focusing on a) improving my 3D printing infrastructure to better support printing ABS, and b) iterating on the designs for the looms/clips so they will be robust on day one.

When I'm ready for production, I plan to create a group buy thread (and will also post a link here so you'll be notified if you're following this thread) to coordinate "orders". I can't say for sure when that will be, but I'm expecting it will be at least through the end of January, and possibly longer. This is a "spare time" project for me, but I am pretty passionate about it.

From the response I've gotten here so far, I am going to proceed with the development of these clips/looms/whatever you want to call them.

Re: Printing yourself, keep in mind that these really should be printed in ABS to withstand underhood temps, and printing ABS has a few challenges over PLA, so keep that in mind.

Also, I did have one prototype part (all of which have so far been printed at 20% infill density) snap at a weak point while I was installing it, so I will also probably recommend printing at a higher infill density. For maximum strength, I am considering printing at 100% infill out of an abundance of caution to make sure that these parts aren't breaking on day 1.

I haven't forgotten about this project, and I have been working quite a bit trying to get a minimum viable product for this. Just wanted to drop a quick update here, since we've made some good progress.

I initially printed my designs in PLA to confirm fitment, and iterated a few times to make sure they fit everything well, which I was eventually able to do, but they were not strong enough nor could they withstand under-hood temps. I printed a few samples in ABS, which was better, but still not strong enough for me (I was able to snap them with my fingers), so I tried a fiberglass-reinforced ABS filament, and that was even more improved, as long as I printed it so the narrow fingers were along the layer lines -- otherwise they would easily snap with moderate pressure, even at 100% infill. I also tried some acetone vapor smoothing to improve the surface finish and help a little with surface strength, and that was alright, but still not as good as I was hoping for.

In the end, I just wasn't happy with the level of product I could achieve printing them on my own, so I looked into finding a vendor who could print them for me at a reasonable rate. I found one a couple weeks ago that can print them in Nylon 12 (on a fancy HP Multi-Jet Fusion 3D printer), which has these properties:

Strong and durable, Good chemical resistance. Slightly grainy and coarse to the touch
Heatproof: 175 degC (347 degF)
Applications: Mechanical & structural parts, mounts, cases, tech accessories, functional parts.
Notes: The final color of PA12 Nylon prints will be "Natural Gray" or "Dyed Black"

I had them produce a sample for me (two sets) in Natural Gray, they arrived today, and I'm pretty happy with them (see photos attached). Surprisingly, the cost to have these printed isn't much higher than I was going to spend printing them myself, so I should be able to sell these within the range I originally estimated, but PLEASE NOTE that they will only be available in gray (as pictured) or black, as the vendor can only provide this material in those two colors.

I plan to install one of these sets in my '90 this coming weekend and will report back on how it goes, as well as some installed pics hopefully.

$30-40	Full set of seven (7) clips
$35-45	Full set of seven (7) clips plus stainless steel hardware
$10-15	3D printer files (STL) only
$20-30	3D printer files (STL) plus stainless steel hardware
$10-15	Stainless steel hardware only

NOTE: All prices for physical goods include shipping via USPS in a padded envelope to US addresses.

The 3D printing service cost is fixed per gram of material printed, plus a flat shipping fee (up to a certain weight, I assume, when the shipping cost will go up), so I'm (very slightly) rewarded for getting a large amount printed at once vs. multiple smaller batches.

Once I'm ready to sell these for reals, my plan is to make a post in the Group Buys forum, give folks a week or two to place orders, then I'll order enough parts to cover the order plus a few extras for any latecomers.

I know I said I'd planned on installing my test set this past weekend, but that didn't happen. Hopefully will happen soon, but I can't really make any timeline promises at this point. Thanks to all interested parties for your patience.
