Hello, new to the forum!

Have been a long time admirer of these cars, after driving one about 10 years ago. Recently, i missed a chance to grab a 1990 5-speed SHO about 8 months ago, and have been kicking myself since, until this last week, where there were suddenly two 5-speed SHOs for sale on craigslist, a 1991, and a 1992.

The 91 is black on black, very nice, but a project (still on craigslist if you are interested in the area, on rt 6 near the CT border, no pics or phone number in the ad though), and the 92 ended up being a way nicer condition running driving car for not that much difference in price.

I am now the owner of the 92. :)

There are some issues to resolve, but its been owned by a ford tech, and the issues seem to be mostly cosmetic, and a few things like getting an alignment since he put a ton of front end stuff on the car.

I hope to pick it up tomorrow, which brings me to the first of probably many questions-

Can I fit this on a tow dolly with the stock slicer rims? or do I have to put a pair of donuts on it?

thanks!

thanks!

This other guy really wants to sell me the 91. I "may" go look at it again to see it run.

Not sure I need two of the same car in a two day period, but I do prefer the first generation styling, and the black on black is pretty cool looking. I am not a fan of the dark ford green personally.

Ill go by and take some pics of it and post it in the classifieds for the guy, definite project, but some SHO enthusiast should grab it instead of it eventually rotting away in that lot.

Pick up mine at noon!

Rhode Island? Man, talk about a state full of d-bags....

:)

Good luck with the 92!

State wide Napoleon complex. Same reason why the RI state house is the 4th largest self-supporting marble dome in the world, after St. Peter's Basilica, the Minnesota State Capitol, and the Taj Mahal. We may be small, but we have a big dome.

So what if its possible to accidentally ride your bicycle out of state? :)

I sneezed once while driving, and ended up in CT....

you should go look at that 91. Im pretty sure its a plus package, now that ive been reading on the forum for a while, but don't hold me to it! I did notice a hood bulge. Right front fender is rusty and or damaged, and badly repaired.

I've seen it listed, and while I think it may be a Plus, I've been spoiled by my rust free TN born and raised 92. Also, I've got way too many projects now! lol

lol, you sound exactly like me. I have 6 cars total, 4 in various states of disrepair, and 2 running, this SHO and a work van. Though this week I have intentions of getting 2 of the 4 going so I can sell them.

Maybe if I sell those two, ill call the 91 owner back and get into further trouble.

very pleased with this car, since I bought it, put over 1000 miles on it already skiing. Needs a bunch of maintenance, but I put all that on hold apart from fluid changes to drive it north a bunch of times, and its held up amazingly.

question though, I need a door key. Kid I got it off of lost the key. Is this something I can still get from the dealership if they run the vin, or are these cars now too old? im using the external number pad, but I have a feeling that will crap out sooner rather than later.

Welcome, 92's are my favorites (I have a couple of them). It depends if you want a matching door key with your ignition key. I had missing keys/broken door locks and on one of my cars, I just found (at the junkyard) a set of spare locks/keys and swapped it out.

I have heard you can go to a lock smith and have them cut you a matching set of door keys. I've never done it so I'm not sure if you have to pull you lock or they can do it without that.

At worst case (if you keypad fails), you can always get into your car if you have long philips screw driver (I've used a long nail, the ones used to hang gutters). Put it straight into the aft hinge hole in the rear door handle and pivot it to the right slowly. It takes some practice, but it pops the rear lock.

IIRC there were key tags with the keys from the factory, that had a code for a dealer to cut new ones. Not sure if you have yours or not, or if dealers can still do that...

For the work involved with swapping cylinders, I'd look into the locksmith route.
