Hello fellow SHO owners. I recently purchased my 1st SHO. A 91 plus model. I need help getting the check engine light off so I can pass emissions and get it registered. I got a 1 month subscription to alldata thinking it would show me how to read the codes but they tell me to hook up some scan tool that they probably don't even make anymore. I know where to put the jumper wire aka paper clip under the hood. Start the engine and the light will blink 3 times indicating a 6 cylinder engine. After that I'm sorta unclear about how to read the codes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't suppose anyone can tell me how to disconnect the bulb that illuminates the check engine light? Of course I would re-connect it after the emissions test and properly diagnose the problem. I just can't afford to pay anymore penalties for not registering the car within 30 days of purchase. I'm approaching 90 days. : /

Remove the cluster and then remove the bulb. What does the check engine light have to do with passing emissions? If it doesn't pass with the light on how will it pass with bulb removed?

In New Mexico, they won't even test the emissions if the check engine light is on. It's basically like an automatic fail. On OBD-II vehicles they connect a code reader even if the light is not on to make sure the codes weren't just erased for the test.

Here, if the light doesn't function it's an automatic failure too. The light illuminates every time you start the car along with all the other gauge lights. If they start the car and the CEL doesn't illuminate then either the bulb is burnt or its been tampered with. Either way they won't test the car.

Here they tell you to leave the vehicle running after guiding you into the drive through garage. They even advise you to go for a good long drive before the test to make sure the cats are good and hot.

I'm sure they check it for function. Why fail it for being illuminated if they don't even verify that it works?

Regardless, what I described above is only for OBD2. Anything older than 95 just gets a sniff test and either passes or fails. You never get out of the car here.
