Hello everyone,

I just bought a manual 1993 SHO. Big fan of the car, but 2 days after buying it the clutch gave out, and I believe it also has a rear main seal leak as its been leaking oil pretty bad. I have limited mechanical experience and nowhere to work on the car, so I am seeking recommendations for a reasonably priced mechanic in the Wilmington/Long Beach CA area. The cheapest quote I've had came in at $1200 but most were about $1500 so that's what I'm looking to spend. Would love someone to inspect the car too and let me know if it's just going to be a money pit and/or anything else I should be expecting will need work soon. Car has a Y exhaust Jose short throw shifter and sway bars if that's relevant. Thanks,
Anthony

Welcome, sorry to hear the issues. You might want to move your ask down to the thread for your year.

I only know Nick with Baysho performance in the bay area. YOu can try asking in the SHOcal section for recommendations. Those sho group sections don't get alot of traffic but it's worth a copy and paste down there. I would also recommend the sho group on facebook which is active. We used to have a list of recommended shops on the old shotimes site but that may or may not still be accessable and the list is so old it might not be relevant anymore. I wish you luck.

If this is in fact the only issue (s) to be addressed, the car is not so unique that a skilled mechanic could not handle a clutch and rear seal replacement.

I can tell you that these cars have created many DIY backyard mechanics around here out of necessity. This car and espically any car at 30yrs old is not something you should expect to be trouble free. A majority of things are well beyond their expected life cycle. I have owned one of these cars since the mid 90's. I haven't used one for a daily driver in over a decade and I mostly do my own work.

If you were closer to Tennessee I'd be happy to help you out.

It would be much cheaper for you to invest in the tools needed to do the job yourself and start learning how to work on it. These cars are a major money pit if you have to pay other people to work on them. Doing a clutch would take a weekend to do if you've never done it but it's pretty straight forward.

The rear main is not a common leaking point on the SHO. You more than likely have a leaky oil pan.
