Picked up my first Ford in years a 2014 SHO non-PP but has everything else on it so I'm learning something about the tech everyday. I have a question, all of the performance numbers HP & MPG have an asterisk that says they were based upon premium fuel. Yet the owners manual says 87 octane is fine and only need to consider 93 octane if you trailer or otherwise drive it really hard. So will you get better performance with premium as in everything including mpg? There are no details about what to expect in the manual. The dealer gave me the car when I picked it up with a full tank of gas and it too was 87 octane.
So this is my company car and I'll put 40K a year on it for four years before the next one and I'm coming out of a very fun Infiniti EX35 AWD that was a blast but REALLY needed premium fuel. I'm looking forward to regular 87 octane but I'm then curious how close to the 25 mpg. estimate will I get cruising @ 72 mph.
So I'm going to try mid-grade now with close to 3000 miles to see if there is a difference then a after 4-5 tanks I'll try premium and see how I do. So far no problems getting 25+ on the highway with one long interstate run at 27.2 mpg and love the 22-23 combined mileage on a tank...nice. Has any anyone already gone down this path....opinions?
COMMENTS:
While my car was in the body shop with the rattling mirror saga I went and talked to the three maintenance staff at the window about the PTU service schedule vs. the comments on the forum about the PTU oil looking like slug @ 25-30k. They unanimously said just stay with the schedule it's a non-issue. Living in WI I WILL need my AWD to perform just like in my last three cars and one tech said he had 120k on his original PTU oil and no probs....thoughts?
My NAV which is got the latest 2014 chip in it right...goes "off campus" every now and then when I have a route in progress. It has happened three times where the circle and chevron indicating your travel location is not spot on the green route line. This causes the NAV to start pumping out routes to get me back on the green line which clearly I have never left.....is that a common malfunction or should I be ******** about it to the dealership?
It also was missing the data for a belt line around a city that was done three years ago so I was just driving through farm fields freaking it out apparently. So basically I was amazed thinking I had the latest and greatest edition of data on my new 2014 NAV chip but clearly this fairly major 4 lane beltline was not in the data on the chip...thoughts?
I know that covers a bunch of ground but I have already appreciated the thoughts and comments from this forum.
Thanks
