Actually, I think the V6s do tend to be a touch faster stock.

What to look for? Same as on any used car, really. Low mileage, no accidents, suspension, engine and transmission working properly, body and interior in decent shape, good braking, and decent rubber. If the cams are already welded too, that is a bonus.

What he said. I just went from a GenI to a GenIII. I like both very much but they are very different cars. The v-6 is faster stock to stock. The v-8 might be less maintenance and is more of a cruiser. I'm enjoying it so far and the resale is falling so you can get one on the cheap.

I think from what I have experienced so far is that the Gen III has a more "refined" feel as compared to the first two generations.

One thing that I love about the Gen IIIs is their ability to be very comfortable for day to day driving.

If the cams aren't welded, than figure that cost into your purchase. Maybe even use that to leverage a better purchase price.

I agree that my Gen 1's and 2's that I have had were faster than my Gen 3's but the Gen 3 has a whole different style to it. This however is one of those topics that everyone will have a different feeling about. As far as the speed issue was concerned. I did not buy a Gen 3 for her speed. It is a classy car. And will go a little more "un-noticed". Good luck in whatever you decide. Buy what feels right to you. :thumb:

I'm not up on the weight difference. Since I went from MTX to ATX I have a real appreciation for losing torque/hp to the mushy auto tranny. I'm sure a little tweaking would get it close to a stock MTX (maybe better in some cases??). I've only had it a short time. On the flip side the overall ride is smoother and the exhaust note is much better. An almost different kind of machine. The hp rating is 235 vs 220 IIRC.
