I am looking into winter tires now and I am thinking about getting firestone winterforce tires. I was on tire rack and found that thier steel rims are relatively cheap and thought it might be good to have my winters on another set of rims. my first question is about the steel rims will these be ok to use. my second question is what tire rim combination would be best for a winter tire. I think I can get the winterforce in 215-60-r16, and 225-50-r17 would either of these do well on my gen2

Go with the 16s. There isn't going to be any benefit of going to a 17 inch snow tire unless you need the wheel that large to clear a big brake kit. Narrower tires track better in the snow, too.
I've had 215/60/16 Blizzaks for the past 3 winters and will never go through winter again without dedicated snow tires!

And one word of advice: The tread compound on snow tires is much softer and the tread is much deeper than on normal tires. The result will be a very 'slippery' ride on dry pavement. You'll see what I mean once they're on. As long as you don't do much or any aggressive driving with them on they'll last you a long time!

thanks!
I think since they aren't that good ondry pavment I will probably go for a cheap summer tire and get the rims and snow tires closer to winter, I have quite a few more 90* days left before I get any winter.

I hade Blizzaks on my old gen 3, and I have newer winter tires for the sho. Not blizzaks but a close 2nd.

You will pay out the nose for blizzaks as even 215/xx/xx are close to $90-$120 all depending on where you buy them.
