My SHO finally died on me yesterday. I was cruising at 3500rpm in 3rd gear and something basically felt like it lock then went boom and i had a loud ratcheting sound from the middle of the engine compartment towards the driver side a bit. The engine runs fine and still has the same power and the sound seems to increase or decrease with the speed of the car. When i push the clutch in it doesn't have any affect on the sound so i do not think it is the trans.

Some of my friends here at wyotech think it might be the motor mounts finally going because they were pretty bad when i went out to carlisle in may. just wanna make sure that is the problem if anybody has any insight that would be great

Does it shift with no hanging up? Did the CE light come on? Oil pressure light? Does it sound like a grating/grinding sound or clanking?

I would avoid driving it until you have more figured out. The more you drive it the more damage you will have likely done.

yeah more or less i just drove it home to avoid towing costs now it is going to sit until i get the problem figured out.

It hangs up a little shifting from first to second and from second to third but just a little bit more than normal. but that would make sense if the mounts went. and no idiot lights came on except the CE light but that has been coming on and going off for a while now do not know y. temp also remained good. It just sounds like a gear is loose or like a ratcheting sound. its not loud but you can definatly hear it when you are driving. When i threw it into reverse to back out of the parking lot i was in it clicked then i went foward again and it was find for about 3-4miles then it started again but without the bang this time.

You've got codes. Check them. See the links at the bottom of my signature to find out where to install the simple jumper and run the KOEO and KOER tests. No code reader is necessary.

Motor mounts don't cause a ratcheting sound.

Investigate and repair the cause of the noise. Is the noise apparent when the engine is running and the car is not rolling? You said the noises increased and decreased with the speed of the car. Do you mean that the frequency of the clicking was dependent upon the speed of the car? Independent of engine rpms? Does it occur with the car rolling and the clutch in? NMI: Need more information.

yeah its hard to explain i have to check the codes but they are intermitant so thats not what bothers me. However pushing in the clutch does not change the sound at all. the sound only happens when the car is moving and the sound increases frequency the fast it is rolling. when it comes to a stop somthing seems like it grabs almost like it is going to stall but the rpms don't move and it doenst stall
