Hey all again

It's that time to get new tires so i mine as well spend the extra few hundred and throw a pair of 18' rims in with it.The link provided is the tire/rim package i had planned on purchasing IMHO it's a good price i checked the tires out they are "high performance" 163mph rated and seem to be a decent company.

But has anybody heard of this company ADR when it comes to rims this would be my first time purchasing any type of rim. Also how do you guys and gals think this would look on a '93 Red SHO

Thanks!:hail:

Very Important to check the weight of rims; not uncommon for 18's to be over 27 lbs, (boat anchors), resulting in poorer accelleration, braking, ride and handling due to the added unsprung weight.

Unless you live in the south/west where roads are smooth, 18's are going to ride Very rough and generate speaks and rattles that were not there before.

Tires make a ton of difference in how the car rides, handles, brakes, steers, etc... never heard of that brand before, and a small off brand tire is not going to compete with the big guys. I think I paid just a little more for my lighweight 17's and Bridgestone RE-101's from Tirerack.

I used to have some ADR rims, they were pretty nice. Kinda on the heavier side at 22lbs but it could have been worse. Overall i think that they are a decent company.

P.S. If you get them dont hit a pothole :frown:

Nexen are a Korean name brand tire, and have an excellent world wide reputation. They just haven't been marketed in North America.
My buddy runs them on his 944 and he is pretty happy with them. Ive driven his car plenty of times and didn't find any freaky handling problems. Walmart apparently sells them now, and Nexen will probably be my next DD tire.

The 19s you see in my sig are RSLs, made by the same company that owns ADR. (Golden Apple) My 19x7.5s are 22 lbs. I did however put cracks partially through one spoke on each front wheel due to potholes.

*edit.. also, I'd upgrade to the 245/40s they list for $40 more. Change the load rating from 92 to 97.

disagree. The tire has to do alot more than the wheel when talking bout ride quality. and 17 and 18 is not a HUGE difference. and unless the wheel is over 30lbs there not going to a lot of loss. 25lbs 18's and I still ran 14.3 with them

I mean maybe with c/o slammed out than yea.

Bottom line; nobody can defy the laws of physics. My 17's are 16 lbs and saying that 25 lb wheels make no difference is just nonsense. That is 18 lbs more rotational weight on the drivetrain from the 2 fronts, and unsprung weight. IF you had the light wheels on your car to comapare to the heavy ones, it would be quicker and ride, handle and stop much better, period Why do they even make lightweight wheels and why do they cost so much more than the heavy cast ones ?

Because the torque required to overcome the rotational inertia of the wheel is a tiny fraction of the torque required to accelerate the mass of the automobile. Wheel weight difference within the bounds being discussed don't have much effect on acceleration. The main effect is in transient suspension response, still hard to notice on a street car.

And cornering, and braking, and... everything that involves inertia.

Don't they say that 1 pound of unsprung weight is equal to 7 pounds of sprung weight? If that's the case, then 36 pounds of unsprung weight on all four corners = 252 extra pounds. And you can do the math for the extra horsepower required to overcome that.

Its much more an issue of unsprung weight than it is rotational inertia. Also, the short tires that go on those 18" rims will weight less than the corresponding 16" tires, offsetting part of the added wheel weight.

Adding a bunch of unsprung weight results in the vehicle riding like a buckboard. I speak from experience....

Yea a .03 difference between in the 1/4 mile. Ran 14.34 with 18's and 14.33 with lightweight 16 TD wheels. Grant it the run with the 16's was a much better 60' but I think the hoosier helped there. I get that every little bit helps. I do and agree but in all reality it not the biggest thing to worry about. People driving abilties are not even going to bring the differences out. Anyways 99 out 100 times people are choosing looks for the upgrade. But the handling upgrades and wat not are definalty a plus

And I never said there was NO difference;)
