I tried to do a search but i couldnt really nail down a direct answer and i want more recent opinions. I need 4 new tires, what should i go with. I dont want to spend more then 80-100 for each tire. I drive mostly on the freeway, some rain no snow. Comfort is kinda important, but not as much as tread life. I would also like a good performing tire. I was thinking of going to americas tire co and seeing waht they have but if anyone has a suggestion im all ears.

up here we have these hercules g3000v for about 100cdn installed.....

from what I understand,t hey are decent for their price.

Another option is the Kuhmo Escta Supras...I would imagine that they are in your price range down there, as they are about 138 cdn installed...

I, however, am VERY impressed and happy with my Firestone Firehawk SZ50s

I've had awesome success with my Dunlop SP Sport 4000 A/S tires. I see they're available in 215/60/16 from Tire Rack for $91 each.
These tires have had awesome tread life, even with my beating on them once in a while. Very quiet tire, very smooth tire on the highway, and in fact these tires in their 17" version tracked better and weren't as harsh as the Bridgestone RE731s I had on the factory 16" wheels.

Yokohama AVS ES100s have much better statistics than the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s, and are only a few dollars more.

I have the ES 100's. If tread wear is important, stay away. I have about 7000 on mine and I will need a new set in about 5000 miles. This is on the torqueless SLO too. :)

They grip insane once they are warm and they are awesome in the rain though.

Getting new tires is such a wonderful opportunity to upgrade your suspension if you haven't driven on performance rubber before Dave.

If it were me I would just get a set of Yoko AVS ES100 and enjoy. I've found that on performance cars or just an aggressively driven sedan that long wear rated tires tend to give about half their rated wear. If you want to get max tire life out of a cheap set of low performance, long wearing tires then you are going to have to make sure you get your car aligned accordingly...that means very little negative camber (I would shoot for less than -0.20 degrees and 0 toe. Oh, and be sure to drive like grandma.

I bought Perelli P4000 215/60/16 from tirerack almost 40K ago. Great highway tires, and pretty good performance tire too. I think I paid $400 including shipping...this was over 4 years ago.

She is due for new shoes, but I'll probably go with a different brand. I'll keep an eye on your post.

This won't be the most popular answer, but I use the Falken Ziex 502's
They have been great. I don't know the tread depth right now, but i have had them well over 30,000 miles (thats a year for me) and they look like they have not worn a bit.

I drive hard, very hard and I go to the drag strip. I spin a little with a 65 shot of juice, but not very much. I have been very pleases.

They are 56 plus shipping each. Thats for 225/60/16 HR. They also have a better verson its the 512. The link is http://www.vulcantire.com/ze502_6_t.htm

Oops they are discontinued! Well for the better tire (V rated) its 61 or the H Rated its still 56. Here is the link: http://www.vulcantire.com/ze512_60_t.htm

You should stick to a V-rated tire (at least) and 215/60 or 225/55 if you want to keep the overall diameter the same. 225/60 will be too tall and change your speedo readings.

I have ****** 215/65/16 tires on now. I plan on these being my winter tires and want to get 225/50/16's for summer. I am thinking of getting the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712's or Yokohama AVS ES100s.

I guess you've got to remember that peoples' tastes differ on tires.

I will say that I got better handling out of Goodyear Eagle GT+4s because of their stiff sidewall. Turn-in was much sharper than Dunlop SP4000s and infinitely better than Pirelli P4000s. Those Pirellis are NOT performance tires. They are Touring tires. The Dunlops may be better in snow and rain but they weren't great on '92 slicers. Just too narrow a rim for a flexing sidewall. If you like the Dunlops, then make sure you get the newer SP5000. They perform better in every way over the SP4000 and are cheaper at www.tirerack.com.

But according to the Tire Rack, the Continental ContiExtremeContact is your best bet for 215/60 16 tires. They have the best performance, ride and wear of any tire that size. Unfortunately, that tire size keeps you in all-season territory so you have to ge to a 225/55 tire to get summer-only designation. At least through the Tire Rack. And I just don't like putting on a 225 width tire on a slicer. oh_my

I have the Yoko ES100's and love them. With coilovers and turbo, they still stock pretty good, but I would have to say I liked the BS RE750 I had, and the FS SZ50's better, but that was on different cars with different suspsensions, so maybe I would like the Yoko's better than those other tires on this car. BTW, my next tires I think will be the Ecsta MX. Nearly as good as BFG KD's, but at half the price.

I just put a whole new suspension on my 90. I've driven this car over 220,000 miles and have had lots of different rubber on it, from the lean times to the good times. For budget, i got some of the best wear out of some cheap Wal-mart tires, believe it or not. i can't remember the name. The best tire so far has been the Potenza RE750. These things are amazing. And with the new suspen, she is a new car. Making sure everything is in specs is important too before you put on the rubber of your choice. I've noticed some pics on here where the back of the cars are sagging, I never noticed how bad it was on mine until i had everything done, and put back into specs. I had the rear springs upgraded also, and the spec's set. And that made a big improvment on the handling also. Just saying, don't get tunnel vision on the front end, getting everything right in the rear is also important to tire life. I live here in Florida, and the road is so hot, traction is really never an issue. OH and keeping the teenagers and your military buddies out of your car too, will greatly increase tire life!

My decision came down between the 712's and the ES100's. Both are very good tires, and are incredible for the money. If i had the $$ i'd be riding on SO-3 Potenza's, but we're not going there. I have had no problems with my Kumho's as of yet. Took em on the interstate last night, ride was slightly harsher, but oh did the exit ramps go so much more smoothly. haven't taken them to the track yet, but i forsee a good bit of traction.
