I live in Festus (MO), and I was wondering if there is anyone in my area that can perform the valve adjustment (PROPERLY)... My next question is would they be willing to help me with my 93' 3.2L (ATX) and how much $$ they want for the job?? My car is at 114,000 miles, and I am hearing what I think is valve rapping coming from the top of my engine. I believe the valves have never been adjusted. Ford was supposed to do it for me at 79,000 miles but I think they fooled me

Sorry, I can't come over and help you, but it is a pretty easy job, just time consuming. You might want to do some reading at www.shotimes.com to see if you are up to it. If so, you can purchase the 60k video and a Chilton manual to help you out.

If you provide your email address in a response or in your SHO Forum Profile, I can email you my valve gapping procedure that includes all of the details for the intake and valve cover disassembly along with the gapping steps and the details and gap specs for the reassembly. A gapping worksheet is available in the Forum's How-To section.

The only special tools required are the tappet compressor and the tappet holder. Those tools and a supply of shims are the unique items in this service. The service is not hard, but it does take a bit of knowledge and caution to prevent from creating more problems than you resolve.

Steve (projectSHO89), looks like you might have some SHO's to work on other than Jerry's and mine!

Silver Bullet, Steve did the upper 60k on my 89 this past November. Very thorough and clean. Also was a great learning experience for myself as I was able to lend a hand and watch the work being performed. I agree with Scott (SDPATT) on the process being straight forward. However, I really felt better about having someone with more mechanical experience to do the work. Steve is just the guy for this. Price is very fair considering what other mechanics would charge if you could even convince them to do it!

Keep us posted if you need any additional help with this. BTW, I live in South County in the Oakville area.

SCOTT... I would like that info on the valve lash!! I appreciate your help... You are always VERY helpful thumbup

FREDERICK + STEVE--> I anticipate the procedure may be too tough for me, and I'll keep in touch about getting the valve lash adjusted!!

I have enabled my Email access here on the forum wink

* Also... One more question. I am getting the check engine light coming on (Only while on the highway). My mechanic said he got a code for the EGR sensor. I think it was the "DPEF" sensor... Does anyone have a photo of where this thing is, that you could send to me?? Or any info that will help me change it?? Take care, and talk to you soon......

Bob
