Here's some ideas I have been considering for a little while. The main ideas I have are these:
1. Change color to either a bright (not that brownish) silver, or a dark grey.
2. Paint black molding body color.
3. Convert interior to black (not in pics).
4. Rims painted a very glossy black, so they don't look like they don't exist, as with a flat black.
5. Possibly do something with door handles, either sand and paint black, so they're smoother, or paint body color.
6. Remove Ford and Taurus badges from rear.

Now the pics! thumbs_u

A nice dark grey:

Now with the additional mods:

Or a bright silver (hard to draw on):

Then give it the mods:

So what do you people think? I'm interested in number 2, but without the door handles maybe.

But here's one I really like!

True clear corners! That's what I'm hoping to accomplish. :D

My idea to make them is remove part of the clear plastic from Sable corners, as I think a piece of those (obviously not the whole thing, which is too long) matches the dimensions of our amber-colored sections. This will be done by heating the adhesive. I assume some cutting might be required for a good fit, although that will require further investigation. I hope to them swap the pieces, and get true clear corners.

Personally, I like the bright silver. The darker silver gives me Robocop flashbacks :p . I always liked the idea of black rims on a silver car, but not THOSE rims. How about some rims with a little more room to see the brake surface behind? 5-stars maybe? The clear corners look awesome!

Thanks for the comments! :) The toughest part I tihnk will be choosing the color. Today I also considered a darker grey, almost black, but with a grey tint to it. But light silver might look smooth and unique (the grey reminds me almost of a SLO color).

I just pilaged 2 gen 2 sables at the junkyard for their signals and will be working on some clear corners for the gen 2. Depending on how it comes out and how easy it is to do, I might consider making some for people. Give me a week or 2 for some experimenting and I will get back to you.

FYI, the gen 2 sable light is the same as the SHO, so it still has the orange reflector.

If I was going to spend the money and/or the time to change the color of a car, it sure wouldn't be gray.

Not with all the eye-catching colors out there. That's what you're after, right? To be seen?

There's tangerine orange, canary yellow, metallic blue, mystic black, etc.

Just don't do gray. If you insist, check out the gray on the new Maximas. Pretty sweet color, and no brownish tint (like your photochops!).

I see your point, and it's a good one! I'll have to check out the Maxima gray too, and see what it looks like. thumbs_u The reason I'm considering silver or gray is that I may be painting the car myself, or with a friend of mine who is able to do that. I'm not too sure about painting the rest of the car a different color if I can't change it under the hood. How hard is that, repainting in there?

A note on white outs. I used the same color of vinyl as my car and simply covered the reflectors.. um just a cheap idea that doesn't involve sandpaper.

I'm still trying to find a reflector. I might have to resort to using a non-reflector and making reflective by other means. I'm about done with looking for a reflector and have a few more places to look. By this coming weekend, I'll know if I have one or not. I will have a clear corner marker regardless, and not just a piece of body color vinyl. ::yuck::

Guys, there is a company that just started making clear corners for the gen II SLO. If we could somehow get someone organized to gather a bunch of names of prospective customers, I'm sure we could get them to make you Gen II guys some clears. I'd be happy to take up the job. Just let me know and I will talk to Greg about a group buy post and what not. :)

If safety is your main concern with other drivers seeing your reflectors you could go with reflective vinyl or better yet just be captain safety and leave the amber alone :D .

I myself just thought of using color matched vinyl a few summers back when I realized the amber was just to off a color for my all black look.
