My little Focus run

Well guys,

This Sunday's run up Lime Creek was a blast!

Perfect weather and light traffic made for a swift and enjoyable run around Travis Lake.

In all the SVTF performed admirably, much better in the curves than my ocean liner-like SHO.

It's not nearly as swift in the straights though.

The run consisted of 4 regular Foci, two SVTF's and one '89 SHO. All in all, the Foci ran right along the SHO despite the huge power advantage, just a testament to how well a Focus can handle a curve.

I don't have any shots of the actual run, there will be a video out on it soon, but here are some car shots, mine is the blue SVTF. Enjoy!

It may seem amazing to some but that red sedan with the stickers on the fender was leading the pack most of the time. I know there were others there that were probably quicker ( like the SHO ) but this car was really swift in the corners, despite it being an automatic with only H&R racing springs and a regular STB for suspension mods. Sure the 17's helped but this car really stuck like glue to the roads. All of us, including the SHO driver, who is very experienced in this type of driving, was very impressed.

I also want to publicly thank Scott and the rest of the LSSHOC for the Spring Run 2002 course layout and maps kindly emailed to me, You guys sure know how to plan a run!

On a completely different topic..You once said that your wife was an amateur photographer. I am curious what kind of filters (brand) she would recommend for another amateur. (me) My camera is a Sony DSC 717.

That red car isn't a SVTF, it's just a regular focus. The SVT's have round foglights in the front airdam.

The rims on the red Focus are the same ones I have on my 93ATX but mine are 16in rims. Can't wait for the spring run to enjoy those roads. My blue 92 is close to that same color blue. Tony will have it finished by Wednesday so I can finally go wash er and drive er some. boink

Yeah, I know that. You forgot that they only come in hatchback too. I was refering to the RS6's in the picture. Thanks anyway thumbs_u

More specifically only in 3 door hatchbacks. But suposedly the 5 door will be out next year, and might even come with a turbo motor.

The 5 door SVT is already out. Or it's an '03 model, anyway.


The turbocharged Focus is a rumor more or less, but the buzz around town is the '04-'5 SVTF will have some type of FI and HP numbers about the same as our SHOs.

The evo bumper on the black Focus is pretty cool, he did a cool job modifying his headlights too.

I think the Europe only Focus RS can already do that. but i think the fact that its turbocharged has something to do with that.

A regular turbocharged Focus can already run mid to low 14's.

The info I've read on the SVT blower should make the car substantially quicker.

Jackson Racing also is now selling supercharger kits for the SVTF. This kit should get the car to about 220 at the wheels, is internally oiled and can be installed as a weekend project by an average shade tree mechanic.

The kit won't be available until after sometime in April, and no hard numbers exist for it yet.

There is one nitrous-equipped SVTF running mid 13's in Cali, I've seen several timeslips putting a CAI'd SVTF in the low 15's.

The SVTF can handle. This is why I bought the thing and don't care too much about the straight line performance, I will say this, the car doesn't do bad at all.

I'd be more than happy to take any of you Texas gents for a ride in it, maybe even let you drive it. If you are really interested in what it's like.

BTW the numbers for the JRSC kit are in and they suck!!!

It's only about 206 to the wheels and only about 20 extra to tq...

Turbo is surely the way to go if you want speed, but the JRSC kit is reliable and affordable.

Kenne Bell has a twin screw system in the works and they promise 40-50% increases. We'll see....

me too, they handle pretty tight from the factory. enough for me to overlook the oil starvation thing for a while until i get an upgraded pump and baffled oil pan. but no grunt though, a 3.0 conversion would have to be done too.

EDIT: i was talking about the contour, just to let you know.

Northside Ford here in San Antonio has one of the new 5-door SVT focus. I don't really like the look of it though... then again I'm not a big fan of the focus to begin with! They also have the 2003 Harley trucks and lighting. I'd trade the SHO in for one of them no problem!

Yeah, all hatchbacks are 3 door just like all 5 doors are sedans.

Chevy Citations came in 3 door and 5 door hatchbacks.

The Focus is available in many different versions. 3 door hatch - ZX3, 5 door hatch - ZX5, 4 door sedan (LX, SE, ZTS) and wagon (SE, ZTW)
The SVT focus starts as a ZX3, and I guess the ZX5 now, tho I have yet to see one.
