I am referring to the write up at v8sho.com.
Does this procedure KEEP the saxacone installed AND only removes the 7" sleeve inside part of the saxacone?
Does this raise the screaming sound of the secondaries VS> removing the saxacone altogether? Or does it have the same effect?
If its the same, then why hassle with it? Just yank the whole sax. OUT?!?

My first mod was removing the mousetrap. I didn't notice a damn thing. Then I removed the lower half of the saxacone. That made a bit of an improvement. Then I went full out and removed the whole thing from the airbox. Now that makes a ton of noise but it sucks hot air. I've still got it that way.

Did you move your airbox over to match the whole in it with the whole in the fender?
I sawed off the saxacone leaving about 3 inches of it sticking out in the fenderwell. And NO, I didn't notice anything either squint I thought I read somewhere that this mod (removing the saxacone) has the same effect as removing the silencer cone in the v6's... that it really lets you hear the engine ROAR when the secondaries open up. I am very disappointed. My luck, I'll probably void my warranty... for NO REASON!
BTW, I do have a K&N.

If you perform the mod completely and correctly, it makes a definite difference in the sound the secondaries make.

I removed the sax and the silencer and noticed a bit of improvement and a bit more growl from the engine. A few weeks later I removed the whole factory tubing and "Porterized", this made a world of difference!!!! I would suggest "Porterizing" your intake, it is not expensive at all and fairly easy to do. The parts cost me about 10 dollars and I found detailed instruction at V8sho.com.

Hey Ian, you definitely need some kind of tube running from the air box to the fender so that the engine can breathe cold air.
To everybody else, why remove the sax and not the silencer? This silencer is a restrictor and by not removing it is probably the reason that you didn't see/hear any noticable changes. Again I suggest the "Porterization" method. You will have a full 3 inch intake runing into the air box and will hear a howl from your engine that you won't believe!
Nothing like cheap horsepower!!!

Remove the fender lining
Cut the LArg tube on the top
Remove parts that are hanging :)
Have fun with the backwards /upside down bolt!

take the insulation off of the fender liner too and throw it away

I am sorry guys, but I am really getting confused. Please bare with me... shrug :D
What EXACTLY is the silencer?
The saxacone is the entire unit that connects to the airbox THROUGH the fenderwell, right? How can you remove that, and still have a silencer at the airbox?
BTW, Kirk, I am pretty sure I did exactly what you said, but have not noticed any difference. Except I don't remeber any insulation behind the fender lining...??????

If you go to V8SHO.com there are specific instructions for removing the "mousetrap" aka "silencer" and "saxacone". The silencer is a tube type piece of plastic that has small holes in it kinda like a baffel that is inside of the large part of the Sax. Remove this along with the part of the sax that runs out towards the headlamp and you will hear a noticable difference from the engine. Remove the whole thing right up to the airbox and replace it with the "Porter" system and you will be even more pleased with the results! V8SHO.com is where you need to go to get instructions for this also, they even have pictures to show you what to do. Hope this helps. thumb

thanks,
like someone previously suggested though... just saw off the saxacone leaving about 3 inches of it coming into the fenderwell. What is the difference of doing this vs. doing the "Porter" method (where he uses the pvc)? Seems to me that would be extra work for no reason... unless I am missing something here... shrug

Ya I know. I've tried doing the Porterization but I think I got the wrong size rubber coupling. I got frustrated with it and said screw it.

Eventually I'm going to steal Nimz's intake design.

The "Porter" Seemed like a lot of extra work to me, too. That's why I just cut the piece of crap out, and left the airbox intake tube alone (from the bracket at the top of the wheelwell to the airbox).

My understanding is that if you simply cut off the 'saxocone' and leave the tube from the fenderwell to the airbox intact, you are still leaving a large restriction to both air and sound.

Removing the tube and replacing it with the 3" coupling opens up a much wider air & sound passage.

I agree with the post just above. Ian, get a foot long chunk of 3" diamter rubber radiator hose from any truck repair place. Just run it straight from the airbox to the inner fender well. Fast, easy, cheap.

One advantage of the "Porter" method is simply an increase in the diameter of the air intake therefore allowing the engine to breathe much easier, I mean you're getting a full 3 inch diameter here. Take a look at the factory plumbing and you will see that it is much smaller and restrictive. Another advantage would be all the sweet noise/music that you will now hear from your engine.
