Does anyone have a secret to removing the material or coating on the moonroof cover? I'm talking about the piece that slides that has the vents in it. It is plastic and what can I do to recover this?

I removed the old cover from the car.

Tossed it into a small kids wading pool and let it soak for a couple of days in soapy water, then scraped off the residue of the old fletching.

Painted it with some interior trim paint from AZ and reinstalled it.

Looks fine, now.

This is a great thread. My 91+'s moonroof cover material is peeling away and this is a good way to spiff up the interior. thumbs_u

Steve, (projectSHO 89) what kind of paint was it? I also need to do this, but was hoping to find some sort of paint that was also semi-fuzzy (if there is there such a thing). That way it would look factory. If you did use a glossy or flat paint does it match the plastic trim?

This is a good topic. I was planning on doing the same thing, just could not figure out how to get the cover out. Do you have to remove the glass to do this?? As far as paint, mine will be red as I have some other things recently painted red. The thing really looks bad with all that shit peeling off.
