Rather quiet around here. Don't want all these Gen I/II people to start thinking we Gen III types are all old and lazy. What is the status of everyone's spring/summer modification plans?

I think I am finally getting somewhere on wheels, having found a cooperative supplier out in BC. There are a couple of 9 spoke models that I find rather attractive that are available in 7.5" and have 45mm offsets. What are people's thoughts on silver vs chrome?

If the mufflers would get a hole or two, I would go for the sound oriented replacements. I think Mark had a favorite brand. But they are holding up remarkably, considering they are now past their 3rd winter in Nova Scotia, a location known for killing exhausts.

OK people, robins are out. what's up?

My mods are coming slow I just pick-up this 98 SHO(TR). I am still adjusted to going from an 99GT to 98 SHO. I removed the silencer, and am trying that porterized intake off the V8SHO.com. I also installed an Cooling fan override switch for next to nothing. (this allows me to switch the fans on high during idle or with engine off ignition on) A cool engine tends to produce more HP than hot ones. Next I NEED MUFFLERS ..... to quiet.

The mods are mostly complete for now. I have bought some slightly different parts to try with the Porterized intake. My thoughts are that they will be easier to install and not slip off the air box end every so often. I will try it out in the next day or two, I'll let you guys know if it works any better than the original set-up.

The track opens on Friday, so I will finaly get a chance to try out the mods, I'll give you guys a full report on the weekend.

To answer Stephen question on chrome or silver: I like both. It depends on the particular car and what kind of look I want it to have. On my SHO I like the chrome, the car looks a little to plain with the silver. The chrome lets people know in a subtle way that the car is something special.

I had silver rims on my 96 TA and I prefered them to the chrome on that car. The TA didn't need chrome to attract any extra attention. The car was modified and ran 12's, but looked stock. If I had chrome rims more people would be scared to race.

So I guess my answer is that it is a car to car decision on the chrome versus silver.

Mac,

When I did my version of Porter intake I just used a single long chunk of 3" soft rubber rad hose that you can get at any place that works on big trucks. This ditched the elbo and the other turbulence ridges that can come from ribbed hoses and such. Also allowed the entire affair to fit in just fine withoiut having to shift the position of the airbox. If you are going this route, before you remove the sax, measure and cut the angle that you will need to get the hose to fit by using the original section still in place.

Scott, to keep it on, I just put in 3 small pop rivits to attach the hose to the front lip of the airbox. Or you could use small screws.

Steve,

Thanks I will explore that route. I would prefer to have a more stock appearance. Hey would like the directions for installing an Cooling Fan Override switch. I got this idea from my old 99 GT I did it too, made it work for the SHO. I am doing research on changing to an slighly cooler thermostat. I am try to get it posted on the V8SHO page but I havent got an answer back from Mike on how to do that yet. I have pictures and directions and all took me about an hour the hardest part was finding the grommet and running wire to the inside.

Yes Mac, I would very much like the directions, photos, etc. for installing the fan override switch. Could you Email them to me at:

[email protected]

The way I did the Porter intake it looks exactly like it came from the factory. It all being one piece of smooth black rubber really helps. I did one additional thing strictly for looks. I put a stainless steel rad clamp over the edge connecting to the air box to cover the rivets and make the edge look clean. Tightened it just enough to keep it in place, since it is only cosmetic and really does not hold anything in place. The resulting silver break looks just right.

Well, I did just about all the mods I planned to do at this time. They are listed in my signature.

As far as the Porterized intake goes, I am going to be replacing the setup with what stephen newberg recommended. I currently have the rubber coupling and street elbow jimmy-rigged so that the one end won't slip off the airbox. So far none of the auto supply stores I've went to have the 3" flexible radiator hose, though. I'll have to check the local big truck stores next.

I installed Colgan mirror covers also. I like the look of black mirrors on cars. Looks sharp to me. You can be the judge when I get the pics I took of my car scanned.

I will also be installing a SARC switch and a front strut tower brace. UDPs are a maybe, along with NOS.

Oh, and as a P.S., I also replaced the "SHO" emblem on the back of the car with a black one. I really like how it looks now.

Here's a full list of cosmetic and performance mods:
Black "SHO" emblem
17" Team Loco wheels/Dunlop SP Sport 4000 tires
Colgan mirror covers
Wheelskins Euro steering wheel cover in gray/black
Porterized intake
K&N Panel filter
Rhino #909 mufflers
"SHOforum.com" decal

Soon to come: SARC switch, front strut tower brace, window tint.
Future "maybe" mods: NOS, UDPs.

Mac: Switch went in easily, thank you. Seems to work fine. I like having a little extra control on things. Are you going to try the SARC switch? That also goes in very easily and produces remarkable results.

Speaking of which, Mark, you might want to hold off on the strut tower braces until after you get the SARC switch in and try it out for a while. Once you can put the suspension to full at will and keep it there, it seems a lot of the other things are not as needed as you might have thought. After I did mine I changed back to the 23mm RSB and gave up on thinking I might need strut braces. On full hard the car is surprisingly stiff already.

Heh guys, maybe this should be a new subject, but they are going to put in a drag strip about 25km from my house. Working up old cars is still alive and well in the back woods of Nova Scotia and a serious type has gotten the permits to put in a strip down near Liverpool, has the first race already scheduled for this June, and already has a couple of hundred entries. They are using existing concrete from a landing strip and just need to put in the timing gear and stands. I am not really into drag racing myself, but might head on down to watch and maybe get a time run.

Drag racing Kicks Ass! Steve I have a strip about 60 miles away all highway...called KCIR. My SHO ran 15.8 with just an air box mod. Glad to see that your Switch work... Did you have A/C problems at first like I did?
