Michigan SHO needs Engine repair help

I just bought a 95' Red SHO ATX with 112K. Now when I first got it I had tons of front suspension work done on it and a recall of the subframe bushings. All of this time while I was getting this work done my check engine was coming on after the car would get warm while I am driving. So I had a diagnostic done on the engine at my local mechanic and they told me I needed O2 sensors, so i went and got the o2 sensor I needed and got the diagonostic done by another mechanic just to be sure which O2 sensor I needed. After i had that done for about $125 I got the CE light again so I read on here that oil in the plug wells and dashed out to my SHO and popped the hooded and popped off one of the plug wires only to see a nice amount of oil in the my plug wells all in the front of the engine . So I know this means new valve gaskets, plug seals, plug wires, plugs and all that good stuff but, I don't know a good mechanic in the METRO DETROIT AREA that would be willing to do the job and not drain my bank account too. If there is anybody out in cold *** michigan that is a SHO owner and can help me please reply with help. Thanx

Oil in the plug wells alone won't cause the CE light to come on. If your wires are bad you will get misfiring and you will know something is wrong. Does the car drive different with the CE on? Does it idle roughly or surge on acceleration? The best thing to do is run the codes again, clean out the oil wells and check your plugs. If money is not an issue go ahead and replace the gaskets and seals but it might not fix the CE light.

id like to help you out but as busy as i am i honestly dont know when i could.

You should be able to do it yourself, the intake comes off pretty easily and from there it is just hoping you dont strip those alan bolts.

If the light goes on and off at seemingly random intervals try and clean the EGR holes inside the intake directly behind the throttle-body. My 93 ATX did that and it seems to be a common problem.

Okay I just came back from driving it and it seems that the CE light comes off and on as I'm driving and I do have a rough idle when I am in park, but no jerky acceleration. I do have a slow take off not near as quick as my 93 Green ATX with 180K (needs resurrecting cause of failing rod bearings, has a loud rattling). So from those symptomns am I right in suggesting new plugs and wires, with replacing the gaskets and seals that are allowing the oil to get in those plugs? shrug

Me and my mechanic just used some sort of pressure gauge to see if it was any pressure leaking out of the EGR valve and it held the pressure fine and we released the pressure a couple times to maybe push out anything blocked in. That didn't work, so since I do have oil in the plugs and getting a CE light I am just going to get the Valve cover gasket set and plugs and wires. Now I seen a post on here recently about new bolts and grommets not coming with the gasket set, so should I tell me mechanic to make sure he doesn't damage any of them because it will be hard getting new ones?

If you are getting a CE light you will have codes stored in the ECU. Get the codes. Auto Zone does a code check for free.

If you have oil in the plug wells you do need to replace the plug well seals, and it is a good time to replace the valve cover gaskets, plug wires, and plugs, but the oil will not cause the CE light to go on. Check the codes.

Hey Bizzy, I'm actually near 8 mile and Mound. If you have Yahoo messenger my name on there is (bundyakatommybrown19). My mechanic did run a diagnostic on it and it came up with 4 codes, 175, 176, and 332, not sure what the last one was. He showed me what the machine said they meant also, which was something like a "running rich" code, a "running lean" code, and I forgot what was the last one I saw. Now I know that usually to do with O2 sensors but I supposedly only needed one o2 sensor when I got it diagnosed the last time so they only installed one. I really need to get these valve gasket and plugs and wires tooken care of though. If it's possible maybe I can help and do get valve adjustment taken care of too.

175 - No HEGO switching detected / adaptive fuel at limit (LH)

176 - HEGO sensor indicates system lean (LH). This one is the one that is causing your CE light to come on.

332 - EGR valve opening not detected
