Lowering springs

HAve you seen Monroe sensa trac out there? I checked a few big retailers inline and the Monroe website and don't see them. I see spectrum and monroe-matic.

I search for part numbers 171780 and 171781. These are the complete assembly, I am not sure of the part number of just the shock itself. These are the old quickstruts part numbers that preceded the spectrum shocks. Now if the seller or Monroe is relabeling the spectrum or monroe-matic to those part numbers....

I am hoping sellers are trying to clear out the old stock of sentra-trac shocks that had that old part number. Its been awhile since I bought these part numbers. I picked up extra sets since they were so inexpensive at the time

Funny. I was on one of the websites and the photo of the quickstruts and the strut body still had a photo that read sensa trac but the item description below the photo stated OE spectrum. NOt sure if this is lazy to not change photo? Hard to tell unless someone has one on the shelf to look at

Guess you would need to ask them if there are really quickstruts or not. There are two front 171780 on ebay for $75 each or best offer, and free shipping. Rockauto has the rears 171781 for about the same price, but no free shipping (but there is the coupon codes on here). I haven't found any rear Gabriels Ultras to match those $25 front ones on Rockauto.

This whole dilemma was hashed out in a SHO group on Facebook a few months back. It's a crapshoot on what you'll get trying to order the SensaTracs. IIRC, the old stock is about deleted.

The search will have to continue to find a suitable strut for lowering springs. And DON'T buy KYB! The ones available for the SHO are still totally inadequate. Hopefully SHO Source fires up the coilovers again.

Adam Hartlmeier just had a set custom made, using universal Koni adjustable inserts. No, he isn't making any more. And even with a machine shop in the family, probably still cost him a coupla grand.

Take the 1 off the beginning. 71780 and 71781. Just double check that they are Sensa Tracs. The same part number is good for the OE Spectrum too.

Was thinking of just trying the Gabriel’s, what do you guys think?

For the fronts, you can't beat that price. Not sure what you want to do for the rears.

I put Gabriel's on all 4 corners and like them better than the Konis I took off. WAY better than Monroe OE Spectum.

Has anyone tried the KYB SR4017 & SR4018 Strut Plus strut assemblies currently available on Amazon. They are a little bit pricey but I have a 1994 ATX with the factory originals on all four wheels with 70,000 miles and they definitely need replacement.

I haven't heard of those, but they are on Rockauto for less than on Amazon (based on the comments above, I would stay away from KYB). Those front Gabriels on Rockauto are a steal for that close out price. You get the whole assembly. I just looked, for a 94 ATX, they have rear complete assemblys available as well. Less expensive than those KYB's

My mechanic recommended I try Sachs struts front and rear. I could then use the KYB strut mounts and Moog springs from SHO Source to complete the assembly. This is more expensive then the KYB strut assemblies I am at a loss on how to proceed since the Monroe Sensa Tracs are not available.

On the rockauto site, for a 94 ATX, the rears and fronts say they are both the same type

GABRIEL G56912 {#M56912} Ultra ReadyMount Front $26 and GABRIEL G56936 {#M56936} Ultra ReadyMount Rear $68. Those prices are for the complete assembly. The Moog springs would be a nice addition to swap in. Some people have cut a coil on the fronts as they tend to make the car ride high if left as is. The rears are supposed to be okay without cutting any coils.

If you're buying the complete assembly, they're probably fine, but less effective than stock. The KYBs could not handle Eibachs, and their best AGX (?) didn't have a SHO fitment.

I'm not sure how many of us currently active have experience with sachs and moogs with kyb mounts. The only thing I'm sure of is if your setup is shot most anything will be an improvement. If it's only for aesthetics can't say for sure. Be aware if you use the make/model or vin for the rear Moog cargo coil springs, it will not cross ref over from a wagon to a sedan at the parts counter or online catalog

@Irish Pride had a post "somewhere" (here or Facebook) about the look of various coil cuts on the Moog springs. Mounts should not matter. But.... Going into the Wayback faint memory, there were certain Ford mounts that made the car sit higher. If you are assembling them yourself, be sure to get the rubber insulators for the bottom of the springs, which can eliminate some unwanted squeaks.
