Hey guys!
So I’m buying another SHO, this one will be a 92 MTX. I’m thinking I’m gonna make this one my performance build, and I recently got the chance to buy some lowering springs for it. From what I gather, it’s kinda hard to find suspension parts for these cars, and the lowering springs I’d be buying are for a gen 1. Will they fit a gen 2?
Thanks,
Sam

what kind of performance? They used to make coilovers. Not sure if those are still around. Low numbers make getting new parts difficult.

These will fit any gen 1 or 2 just fine.
Now would be a good time to start looking for Sensa Trac shocks.

Do not put those on cheap ebay or Rockauto struts. Find some good OE struts or some Monroe Sensa Tracs. Do a search and you will find the correct part numbers here on the forum.

HA! they used to be dime a dozen Monroe struts. SOme people like them. I'm not a fan, but the pickin's are so slim it might be worth using. I don't know, Monroe went downhill in quality as far as I can tell and the rest are no better
That's why I tell people to make sure and get the Sensa Tracs. The OE Spectrum struts are supposed to be the same according to Monroe(same part numbers) but the valving was changed and the Spectrums don't last like the Sensa Tracs do.

I don't see those on the market doing just a quick check. I think they are pushing OEspectrum and quickstrut. Selection is getting worse. I would look at specs for Sachs and KYB

I usually look for 171781 and 171780 part numbers. Those are the front and rear Monroe quickstrut part numbers. You get all new parts and just swap out the springs. I have found deals on Amazon or Rockauto. If you watch the prices, they sometime fall pretty low. I picked up some rears for less than $40 each

There are some Gabriels that someone on here tried and said they were okay. Try doing a search for the Monroe part numbers and there was a recent posting about the Gabriels, found it:

If you can find sensatrac. Sounds like quickstrut and either remove the spring that comes with it or just slap the quickstrut in?? WHere you going to find Koni? They stopped making those a long time ago unless you find a used set. The rebuilds for Koni's are alot of $$.

Those part numbers you gave me pull up the oem strut mounts, strut and coil spring. So if I got the whole assembly I’d just replace the OE coil with the lowering spring? Or is there vendors that sell just the mount and strut

You can buy all the piece parts to make the whole quickstrut assembly, but it ends up costing more. Especially, when they have close out pricing on the entire assembly. That is what I did, I got rid of the monroe springs and replaced it with my lowering springs.

Just looked, those Gabriel’s are a steal. 25 bucks, I’ll buy 4 and see how it goes
Those are for the front only, so your car only needs two of them. For the rears, if you want to stick with the same brand, you can go and buy the individual components. Looks like they have rear gabriel struts, but I don't know if that is a good model. You would need to do some research to find what is the equivalent gabriel model to the fronts they are selling.

HAve you seen Monroe sensa trac out there? I checked a few big retailers inline and the Monroe website and don't see them. I see spectrum and monroe-matic.
