If you lower the car in this method does it affect the alignment?

Yeah, it will affect the alignment.

On my car, with this done, stock sagging springs, and the strut plates undrilled, I am still under -1 degree camber.

Unless you fit some smaller tires you can only drop the front strut about 5/16" in the spindle. Any more and the tire will be too close to the spring perch, if not actually hiting it. Another spot to watch out for is the side of the tread shoulder, it gets close the the cone part of the spring perch if the strut is lowered.

not to mention the bottom of the strut getting closer and closer to the CV boot. the locator tab is just that, but it also provides a stop if the knuckle/pinch bolt fail. id hate to see what happens when a strut drops onto a rotating CV joint at 70MPH.

I considered doing this during my suspension overhaul.

WAY too tight in there to even bother IMO. The tire to spring perch clearance is very tight, and the strut housing end to cv boot clearance gives me chills.

Awfully tight.
