I had a lower temperature thermostat in my car for the summer because I thought it was running to hot. But now that its winter it sputters and doesn't idle right. If I let it warm up to a certain temperature it will go back to normal just like it was never even sputtering. But then when I drive it and the thermosta opens it will start chugging, you can barely feel it until you go to give it gas. Do you think this is because the thermostat or is there something else it may be?

Its something else. Even when below any average operating temperature it should still run without a hitch. Have you done a tune up lately?

I will agree with above, its not the t-stat, you may want to start looking at things like a tune up. First though check your ECC codes to see if there is anything in there to help tell you whats wrong.

Could it possibly be the fuel filter? When I was driving it today the idle was at about 1200 rpms. Is the idle high because its trying to warm itself up? And no it hasn't had a tune up while I've had it, I got it at 92k miles and now its got 102k miles and I don't know its maintanence history.
