lots of displaced Lousiana folks around this area, I went to the nearby walmart and lost count after I saw 10 lousiana licence plates. Went down to the George R Brown convention center yesterday and ended up working there from 8am till 1am. Lots of tired people, but happy to finally get a warm shower, warm meal, and clean clothes. Just really sad to hear some of these peoples stories.
Pretty much all the hotels around here are full, and most people have no idea when they will be able to return to what is left of home, and start rebuilding.

My question is this... Are the hotels donating their services, or are these poor folks dipping into their life savings to stay there? I guess it doesnt matter, its all survival at this point, but just curious, as MA is a far distance away from LA.

I've heard of one owner around here providing for free, while most of the others are offering "discounts".

These people from New Orleans are out shopping the malls like they have money to blow! :oogle: Many have said they're staying here and not going back to New Orleans [actual conversation, not relaying what the news has to say].

On the other hand, the young guys are acting like it's a joke, making comments to girls like, "Hey girl, you wanna donate your cell phone? I'm from New Orleans![laughing]"

There's a crap load here!

According to the news, Texas has 220,000 evacuees already!

I heard the number is up over 230K now...that's like half the population of New Orleans.

The people that can aford to stay in hotels are doing so, not all of new orleans residence are poor, but there are quite a few who are. Certainly the people who are in hotels won't stay in them for long, they will find apartments, or some other longer term place to stay.
