the OP is limited to basically the stock displacement.

the engine referenced in the article states pretty clearly that it's been bored and had the stroke changed and has custom one-off everything.

The rules are just for displacement, I don't believe it neccessarily has to be stock displacement, just under 3.014L

If the math is correct, and you punch out the bore and shorten the stroke, you would still have a sub 3.014L engine.

Also, this guy doesn't seem to be averse to custom one-off everything.

Plus if the shop that built the carb'd 500hp n/a engine is contacted, they'll probably still be able to make the rods/pistons for that build......or contact the owner of it to find out details. In my interactions with the few LSR guys I've been around, they'll help each other out with things.

Look about half way down the page. Says something about a reworked 3.0 making 500 hp at 10,000 rpms. Also, it's Popular Mechanics so it must be true.
Ahh, yes, but looking at the car and engine classification, it says Blown Gas Lakester... so this puppy isn't normally aspirated. For the class I am shooting of it is just Gas, no power e adders at all. No juice, no turbo ,no fuel, just plain old racing gas sucked in in the traditional way, lol... How much of an over bore is the 3 9/16 inch? IO had to destroke my current motor by 0.030 to have some room in the engine class, a whopping 2 cubic inches leeway, lol... 'bout like this guy.

Nice article, good catch

Welcome Larry, while I don't really have answers for you, I am always thrilled to see what LSR guys can accomplish.

Keep up the good work. :) Paul

Hey! Thanks! I was 68 when I ran 210.779 out the back door and a 204.912 for a full mile average. I was never so glad to see the 5 mile maker go whizzion by as this was nearly 30 mph faster that the car had ever gone...turbo decided to work a bit... previous problems laid at teh feet of ebay Chinese waste gates.
This years motor is a fairly significant piece of work. It is a 1962 260 block all decked, and line bored, and uses AFR 165 heads with serious valve springs to control a 0.608 I and 0.614 E lifts. A serious investment in this, lol. Comp cams solid lifters, pro comp roller rockers, comp cams custom push rods, compo cams roller cam, comp cams timing chain set, the one with the Torriington thrust bearing, 4340 profiled I beam rods from a 347 stroker kit, custom Ross pistons with some fancy zero gap rings and the crank destroked by 0.030 inches. That was because the stock OEM displacement is 260.39 cid and the class limit is 260.99 cid. Bore is 3.810 inches. A little arithmetic shows that a teensy bit of bore wear and I am out of class. Oh, they use a pump to determine displacement right up to within 3% of the lower limit of displacement and 3 % of the upper. If you fall into that then you get to tear at least one side down for physical measurement. Anybody wanna do that with a SHO...on the salt...in the sun...and blowing salt...and looky loos..and and and.... Oh, and I had the crank neutral balanced, ie no external weights to bring the balance in..just something in having overhung weights on the ends of the crank that bothers the engineer in me. I decided to never ever do that again, lol... the old addage about "speed costs, how fast do ya wanna go" applies here...

Am having a bit of a problem with the motor though. It is running sadly at idle and has a vibration. But, boy howdy, does it rev! Instantly. Probably will expire getting off the starting line, lol... I need it to run 209 twice....in the same measured mile...

I'll see if I can find a good photo of the car and post it...

Thanks all for the wonderful comments! I appreciate them... If you were in Pahrump, I 'd buy you an RC Cola and Moon Pie...

Welcome to the forum. I can't add more info. Doing the 3.2 to RWD in a Mustang but mine will be just a driver. You are doing a huge challege compared to what I am doing. I did find the link of a person who did use the 3.2 at the salt flats. Not at the speed you trying for.

I hear you on the skill level. I have had a MG Midget for over 30 years. So I understand what you said about the Sunbeam. There is a person on the Turbo forum putting a 2.3 Ford in a Sunbeam. But his will be turbo. Maurice

Welcome the forum Larry.

My local machine shop guy (Joe) runs a yellow car at the Bonneville salt flats, Tracer Racer. He ran 250+ mph all motor. Its a 3.0L and made 490+ HP at the crank. I think he lost the record, and now wants to use the SHO V8, shorten the stroke to 3L. He also said something about using Kawasaki pistons.

If you want to get ahold of him, PM me and I will get you a phone number.
