Ok...I'm pretty sure it isn't an engine mount but it sounds a bit like it. It only happens when I turn, obviously something is loose. Any common things I should check?

been there, done that, it could very well be your subframe bushings going bad, they suck anyways, so this gives you the legit excuse to replace them with Aluminum. COntact NetViper. 100.00 shipped to your door, get em while you can. YOu will not be sorry

While we're talking about it, what exactly do subframe bushings do, and how hard are they to replace?

They keep the subframe attached to the car. The subframe holds the motor to the chassis. If you're good with wrenches it's not incredibly difficult unless something breaks on the way out.
