I just bought my SHO off my dad. He's the ONLY owner and has maintained it well. But he's only tossed it to mechanics shops, and so he doesn't know HOW WELL he's maintained it, or maybe how bad he's maintained it. So what should I do to it first, via mainainence? Addam  :

Tell you dad, if he is forgiven he will still have to remain in pergatory for a long long time. You better strenghten your bond with your mother.

First, you should do your best to create an account of what maintenance has been completed to date with whatever maintenance records may exist.

You'll then want to familiarize yourself with the '60K' maintenance services. You can learn about what a 60K entails by searching this forum for '60K', or by visiting http://www.shotimes.com

Then you can compare what's been done (and when) to what should have been done. That should leave you with a good idea of what's needed, and what you can expect to pay.

Please do your car a favor and avoid your local mechanics for most engine/drivetrain service! :) Most reasonably compentent mechanics can be trusted with the suspension/steering, etc. since the design is the same for most Tauruses on the road. But, for blood-and-guts engine & tranny work, you're going to want to try and find a local SHO-knowledgable mechanic or learn to do some of the work yourself.

Not to sound like a smart-ass, but fix whatever is broken.

Chris (SHOooo) is right in his suggestion of researching what has been and/or should have been done. If everything is in order, than you're cool.

However, start saving your pennies for when something does go horibbly, horribly wrong. Your Dad can tell you that when something on the SHO breaks, it can be quite expensive to fix.
