ok, last night i was driving and noticed a popping noise coming from both the front and even the rear (SFB's, but from the rear too?) I met Glen Murdock last weekend on the fall run, and he mentioned the SARC struts doing something like that, before it started for me. another is a whining coming from the front, i want to say drivtrain rather than a pulley, i revved the motor in neutral and it didn't make a peep, only while in gear.

BTW, please say the pop is Sub-Frame bushings, and the whine is just my imagination.

very true thumbs_u , that's how i discovered the whine, i finally rolled the windows down.

To test the struts take the SARC fuse out and drive around. See if the noise is still there. My popping noise in the front was the end links which you can test by just grabing and shaking them.

It may be the subframe bushings though. I have solid alumiumn ones in mine and if I were to replace them with rubber ones I'd use the rear bushings on all four corners.

I tried it this morning for a short road. it popped once durring the time it was off. but what about the rear, could that be the endlinks as well? and for the bushings, i think someone on hear said you can use the same aluminum bushings as the gen1-2, just not sure who. is this true?

I really don't want to be the bearer of bad news, especially since I have that same whining sound in my SHO right now, but from other things I've read, it may be the Torque Converter on its way out to pasture...

Hopefully Kirk will read this and let us know if this is one of the warning signs to a TQC beginning to fail...

SHO Squall, you may very well be correct. slipping like a, well you know. i have a buddy at work who took a Automatic Transmission course at UTI. just from describing it, he said that could be it, or some sort of shaft near the TC. BTW, this morning it was more pronounced. i could even hear it in park, the sound was coming from where the TC is. i appreciate the help. anyone know of a good trans shop in houston who WILL warrenty their work? i can in no way afford one of doug lewis's trannies right now. i just need it back on the road. it quit on me today at lunch, just barely managed to back it into a parking space. let it cool down for 4-5 hours while i was working, then got two blocks to the other side of the highway. it's in the parkinglot of a friend's gas station where it won't get towed. Thanks all, too bad it's a few hours too late or i would have driven the other car today. i just have to get the '90's rod bearings replaced then i can take my time getting this thing back on the road.

P.S. on a side note the original trans. did last 98k miles. too bad my dad was never smart enough to service it regularly (if ever) since we bought it at 30k. 98k and never serviced. this one's gonna have a Hayden cooler, and a Trans-Go to try and reduce friction and heat.

The bushings from all years of SHOs are all the same size.
