I was getting the surging before I replaced the CPS. I also had the occasional stall.
Just before it gave up all together (110 miles from home) I noticed it was getting harder to start, and would sometimes backfire just before it hit. Of coarse you are also running the oil cooled plugs, so I would wait until you have fixed that before going any futher

Fixed 1 problem..added a new one

OK, first of all I want to thank everyone for their replies.
All excellent suggestions :thumb: (except for the wet finger plug wire check :bonk: )lol.

Anyway, stumbling problem was caused by the MAF.
Apparently the ignition tumbler is worn out and stayed on for a while...till the battery died..
that left a bit of voltage to the system and the patina in the MAF became oxidized.
Cleaned up the patina and Bang...of she went.

Also, after that I changed the intake and plug well seals and put new wires on...
Runs like new!!!

Only thing now is I am getting HEGO lean on both sides now. Seems to only happen in closed loop. (no code when engine is cold)
Any suggestions? Bad O2's again..they are only 5-6k miles old.

If you are all of a sudden getting a lean code - you might not have sealed the intake completely so their might be an actual lean condition in the motor because of a vacuum leak.

You didn't replace the plugs with the wires?

Good diagnosis with the MAF....that is interesting how that happened.

Acctually the lean codes were before I did the intake removal..
I did not replace the plugs with the wires.
I don't have many miles on them 5k at most.

Oh, well then they are far from due. I wonder if the business with the MAF could be causing the lean code.

What kind of o2 sensors did you put in. People have had bad luck with ones that arn't Motorcraft or Bosch.

They are Bosch O2's.
I am not getting the codes during or immediately after hard acceleration.
The CE light typically comes on during cruise at approx. 2000-2800RPM under steady pedal.
Idle is smooth and It runs probably better than it has in 5 yrs.
(NEW PLUG WIRES!!!!)
