Is this price right???

I am replacing my right wheel bearing assymbly and my left tie rod end. Parts are about 140 and labor is 60. Total just over 200 bucks. Sounds right, just making sure. Let me know if I'm getting shafted. Thanks

It seems like you should be able to get the parts for about $80 or so. But the labor he's charging is less than I would expect, so it evens out.

I'd have to disagree. I think that's a very good deal. My front wheel bearings were $102.00 each, and my inner tie rod ends were about $30.00 each. So if you're getting this done at a shop, that's really a pretty good deal.

FWIW, wheel bearings (and tie rod ends too if I'm not mistaken) are usually recommended to be replaced in pairs.

I think that price is lousy for ONE bearing/hub and ONE tie rod end (presumably OUTER), especially when you figure you're gonna need an alignment as soon as it's done (unless they are including the alignment in that price).

Tie rod ends are $15.00/each at AutoZone, and you could install them yourself in under an hour and then take the car to get the alignment you're going to need.

The bearing and hub kits are $65/ea from AutoZone.com (or $30/each if you just want bearings).

The Ford 'book' (SLTS) labor is 1.5 hours to replace BOTH front bearings & hubs (.8 hours for just one).

Like anything, shop around for price, and again I recommend replacing at least the hubs/bearings in pairs.

Do you think when they gave me a price quote, they gave me parts prices for a 'slo'? I specifically told them it was SHO, but I think they are about the same.

I will replace the other hubs/bearing and outer tierods. I am about to buy another SHO, I'm just making sure the one I have now will make the 500 mile trip that goes with it.

I will have 2 SHOs' if I play my cards right. 1 for the winter (present) 1 for the summer (Future SHO) Both 89s. Thanks!

What??? That's dirt cheap! That's what I get for buying parts off the internet. And you're right, if it's the outer tie rod ends, they're easy to replace. And if your alignment is good right now, count how many threads are showing on the tie rod, take the old tie rod end off, and screw the new one on leaving the same number of threads exposed. I know it's tedious, but it'll come pretty close to keeping the alignment as it was.

The hubs/bearings are the same between SHO's and SLO's. I think the outer tie rod ends are too, but I don't have my parts reference right in front of me to check.

The Timken bearing and hub for the 89 is # 5200000 and sells for $50 at AZ. The number changes in later years, I don't know when the dividing line is.

The outer TRE is about $20, also at AZ.

You will need access to a press to replace the bearing and hub.
