Is it a 3.0 or 3.2L?

Here's the deal. Just picked up a junkyard motor for my dead 90 SHO on friday afternoon, spend the night pulling it and changed out the clutch for my first time. The engine was suppose to be a 3.0 from a 94 and they didn't have a 3.2 because I asked. Well, I had to change the alternator bracket to my old one because it wouldn't fit up right. Another problem I ran into was that the wiring harness would NOT connect up to my 90 correctly, it had a 16 prong connector and mine has two 8 prong connectors in the same place.

Everything works, my first engine swap was a success after I made those couple changes. The motor came with a Valeo clutch that was in decent shape, but I want to know if this is really a 3.0 or not, anyone know how to tell for sure? Did they have different brackets/harness in 94?

I almost wonder if someone converted an ATX to a MTX in the previous car, you know?

Thanks
Doug

One way to tell is the EGR. If theres an EGR on the intake....its a 3.2.
Another way to tell is if the coil pack is slanted down..its a 3.2
And if the motor had a serpentine belt (opposed to v-belts)...its a 3.2

Those are the most noticeable differences in the two.

Only all the California 3.0L SHOs came with EGRs due to emmisions restrictions for the state. The rest of the 3.0L SHO from all other state do not have EGRs, only the 3.2L SHO engine did.

As for the original Q, this was just covered recently, try a search, I don't feel like looking for the link. :corn:

I know that the alternator on a 90 and a 94 are different, that could account for the difference? I put a 90 engine in my 94 and the alternator would not bolt to the 90 engine.

Alright, I'm pretty sure it's the 3.0L then. I was hoping I got lucky and scored a 3.2L. Thank you for that information.

Glad to be running the SHO again. :thumb:

If the new engine had the ATX belt setup, you would have had to change more than the alternator bracket.
