How to reset codes? I pulled the superchip. And the battery cables.

How do i reset the computer? Someone in the other forum told me to pull the jumper cable while it was reading off the codes. I did. I also read that you can do it by pulling off the battery cables, and then stepping on the brake pedal for a minute or so. I did. I also pulled the chip. Would like to reset the codes, so everything is fresh, and if it happens again, it wont come upo with as many, so i would hope... headbang laugh_ti

Well I let the vehicle warm up, while i was up here writing in the forum hoping for a quick answer before i headed off to work. But when i tried to do everything earlier the car was cold from the night before. Now that it was warm i decided to check the codes, though not to much has chnaged but a little drive around the block. And now the codes that came up were. 111 111 1 542, sounds like things are better so far just the 111 code now. So I am guessing then that the computer did reset, and jst has this one code and then the 542 from previous or something like that. Guess i wiull have to wait and see. Will be doing a roundtrip to work today, be back tommarow. Roundtrip = 250 miles... See what happens.

Thats unusual that the 542 code came up.

I've often wondered if that code is thrown if you merely turn the key to on and let the fuel pump cycle. The car never stalled or failed to start since you reset the computer did it?

To reset the memory codes the computer stored, you have to pull the jumper (paper clip, piece of wire, whatever you are using) while the computer is flashing the codes.

Just disconnecting the battery cables wont clear the codes in memory.

This is a direct quote from the other thread you started regarding the same or similar issues (hint hint). Follow the advice given and you'll be all set with clearing the codes.

Well thanks for the information but as when i strated i said i Didn't think it worked, came up with all the same codes again after i did it. But when the car warmed up and i took it for a ride, things changed. I dont know why. As far as the code 542. It did stall when i was starting it up. But there was no CEL light. Next weekeend I will be installing a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and spark plugs and wires (One heat range colder ..Iridiums) And going to install an A-Pillar guage holder, with a bunch of guages, and Currently working on one for the ashtray area, to install nitrous pressure, and fuel pressure guages (dont worry they are electronic,) Thanks for your help with the previous posts. If anything happens again, Then i will post it here. Thanks.
