How to remove your dash

the dash in my 91 red/black cracked this week. i was thinking about swapping it out with one from one of my other 91s but after reading this i say "screw that"! i guess i'll just buy a dash pad off ebay or something.

Incredible amount of work.....congratulations on having the patience and persistence to slog through it all.

I noticed the same slight antifreeze smell in my 89 SHO....looked through my factory shop manuals.....and after recovering from the shock, decided to just bypass the heater core (just like one of your early pics). The fan and A/C are sufficient for defogging to windshield, and I just wear a jacket in the winter.

Thanx again for what can be a great help to those willing to tackle the job. Sure better than trusting it to somebody else.

Just got done doing this in my 91' a couple days ago, found a dash at a salvage in perfect condition, all I can say it's not for the faint of heart. Took 19 hours including removing the salvage dash, removing my dash, rerouting the harness's and installing the new dash.(also replaced seats and carpet but that literally took like 15 mins) This took longer than it probably needed to, but I labeled everything as it was removed to insure it all made it back together properly. Beware all the sharp metal corners and unfinished edges. My hands look like hamburger, but hey, everything works and it looks great! Rare to have a 20 year old car with mint interior!

Does anyone know if the plate with the car's VIN on it is attached to the dash? If you swap a dash from one SHO to another one, will it have the VIN of the dash on it and not necessarily the car?

The VIN plate is not attached to the dash, its attached to the unibody.

In Step 48 there is a round grey female connector shown on the far passenger side lower glovebox area. A year ago when I started this 95 MTX to 95 MTX dash swap I remember it was very hard to separate on both donar and receiver. Now its a year later and I can't figure out what it connects to - is the male portion maybe inside the lower A-pillar? Of course the carpet and sound padding are already back in . . . any advice appreciated.

Also trying to figure out exactly where the grey speaker cable attaches behind the glovebox (is it supposed to go above? I thought below)

Hot tip if you have to replace the Blend door actuator. All tutorials and threads I’ve read on replacing the BDA has you either remove the HVAC unit out completely or cut away the sound insulation to get to the rear bracket bolt to remove which is still difficult. Well it looks like the Ford designers were clever on this one and allowed space underneath the bracket to remove the 1/4” screw with an extension. This screw along with another 1/4” screw in the front attaches the BDA to the bracket so you don’t need to remove the bracket. Swapping it took less than 5 min after figuring it out. Of course you need to move the dash out of the way but I noticed there were several steps not necessary just to replace the BDA. Total time was about 5hrs following instructions, labeling and ziplock screws/bolts, and taking my time to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I could probably get it closer to 4hrs if I had to do it again (hope i don’t!).
