Does anyone know if the plate with the car's VIN on it is attached to the dash? If you swap a dash from one SHO to another one, will it have the VIN of the dash on it and not necessarily the car?

Very detailed, thank you. Pictures speak a thousand words. Can I mention that the ford radio removal tool works great for step 21 (removing cup holder). I used nails to remove my radio in my 94 Probe GT but for the SHO the didn't work so well, I had to buy the tool. Guess I got luck the first time. Anyway thanks again :thumb:

I just did a practice dash removal on my brother's Taurus he is junking. I might have to do my mom's SHO in the spring. your pictures were great. one comment- you removed the steering column. all I did was remove the 4 nuts that hold up column, then I dropped entire column to the floor. was able to remove dash with no problem. thanks again for the thread.

with most aftermarket stereo's just slide thin butter knives down the center of both sides of the radio. Then grab part of it and pull, make sure you don't break anything off. Once it's out and inch or two you can grab the chassis and pul it the rest of the way out.

It's a pain in the butt, due to all the wiring differences, I have done it once, but you need to adapt the 90 dash harness to the 89 Engine compartment harness, 89 Body harness, and 89 Front harness, there are probably about 60-70 wires that need to be changed around.

It took me about 2 weeks working from both the 89 and 90 EVTM's to get the wiring right and the dash back in the car, also it required some brackerty under the dash from the 90-91 vehicle as well, steering column is different, steering coupler is different. if you have EATC, the blend door actuator connector is different.

It seems to me, that it would be easier to change all the engine compartment harnesses to a 90-91 SHO (provided you have the harnesses or can get them), versus all the rewiring.

yes, but the main body harness has different connectors as well.

at the time I had just the dash and the dash harness, I did not have a parts car and the rest of the harnesses to go with them.
